this Mazda6 caught up to me while I was doing 80 on Alligator Alley. I didn't have any problems staying ahead of him, once accelerated up to 100. But he was able to stay not too dfar behind, so I can't say that I blew his doors off. I then backed off and let him go ahead. I knew that there was a speed trap ahead. I guess he didn't. But he was lucky to slow down on time, there were three FHPs on the median, one of them in a Camaro SS.

first of all street racing is bad....
i think Mazda6 have around 200 or 210 hp, which enable them to keep up with our rides at high speed...

Almost any car can keep up with a TL-S at higher speeds. You cannot shift to 3rd above 80mph and 4th is too week (tall). I remember almost losing to pre-1998 GS 300.

I few months ago, they held a Mazda "racing/driving" school at an old air force base out here in Tustin Cali. I got to drive them, and I have to admit, it was pretty impressive! I just couldn't get used to their version of the "SS" cause it's backwards from our car. Then again, someone told me that it's our car that's backwards from all other cars with the "SS" feature. Theirs, to downshift, you shift forward, and vise versa. LOL, I kept redline the hell out of it, because I kept getting confuse. I know it sounds like something you would get used to fast, and you would, but when you're trying to beat the best time to win a car... trust me... you don't think like that. Needless to say, I didn't win the car.... cause there were like.... professional drivers out there competing for it too, which I thought was unfair... but I guess they were "NON" active pro-drivers, so they were allow to compete.

I don't think the 6 will beat the TL-S off the line...sure, it can hit a hundred mph and all that...but I doubt its acceleration is nearly as good as ours...plus it's a freggin' Mazda....not exactly what I'd call a better make than Acura..at least IMHO

well for staters our cars will and can go into 3rd after 80 in ss mode, just let off the gas a little bit when shifting into it. my 00 tl will hit a little over 100 in 3rd and it puts it into vtec mode right away in 4th. yes 4th is a tall gear but the tl pulls good in it. it starts taking ALOT of hp to accelerate as speed increases.and our tl's do a good job at higher speeds.

it WILL denie you 3rd over 80mph IF your on the gas. but as FSTTYM says let off the gas and SS it to 3rd then romp on it. if you cant get it to 3rd you might as well do as my sig says....and KEEP RIGHT!!!!!
but be vedi vedi careful our cars will go from 80 to 110(+or - 1or2mph) in 3rd gear in a blink of an eye(+or- a few secs)

Yeah, Ruski. Sounds like you were in 4th...
I was with a Mazda6 all the way to Orlando one time and the car had no chance at all unless he caught me in 4th over 90mph. Then it was closer...
And for everyone else, I don't condone street racing. It's pretty stupid. Driving fast is stupid. But if you are going to do it, Alligator Alley is the place. It's all 70mph, straight and there are no onramps, side areas-nothing for over a stretch of 40 or 50 miles...God love Florida!

I owned TL-S for more than a year. I know how to MAKE it go into 3rd above 80mph. The problem here is that the moment you touch brake pedal - you lose. Mazda6 has 219 hp and is lighter. It could have a manual tranny. I am not bashing TL-S here. I drove the car for a pretty long time and speak from experience. You can stay with almost any car on the road off the line (I once ran with a pre-2000 S600) and you can get beating from almost any car on the highway. BTW everyone keeps saying that TL-S can reach 110mph in 3rd. Mine would only go 100mph at 6,900 RPM. Are you driving downhill most of the time? Those who think that TL-S is fast between 80-110mph should try BMW 540. With similar to TL-S 0-60 time 540 feels at least wise as fast as TL-S above 80 mph.

You owned a TL-S? Did you sell it or put it out to pasture?
Mine goes into third right at 83mph and will run up to about 116mph before having to change to 4th...
IMHO, it is the strongest pulling gear in the car...And I don't have to hit the brake to drop it into 3rd in ss at 85mph, I just have to LET OFF the gas pedal for a tick...

I had one of the early 2002 models. Got it in March 2001. Traded in April 2002 to a 2002 540ia Sport. The tranny (mine was fine at 16K) and headlights theft issues (I live in NYC) made me do it. I cannot verify it right now, I do not have the car anymore, but I remember hitting rev-limiter in 2nd at 70 mph and 3rd around 100mph. I also remember one of the magazines (C&D?) specifying 99 mph as a max speed in 3rd. I also remember the slow 4th gear and useless 5th. The milage was great though. Once again I am not a TL-S hater. The fact that I had to go all the way to 540 to get similar/better performance shows that I had a very high opinion of the Acura. Navi was great in the Acura BTW.

I don't think we are busting your chops, Sergey. I just think we are all in unison saying your TL-S was sick...
The 2nd gear is about right. Mine hits around 72mph or so...Third definitely is over 115mph...
I agree whole-heartedly that the car is a dog in fourth. It's like hitting a wall. Car pulls HARD to 115mph and then when it hits 4th and falls out of vtec, it has nothing...Nothing at all. Not even with my mods. It's like it's just a normal car...

BTW, nice choice in replacement!
