I was working on the AFC install tonight and needed to go to the store. So I say to myself, "self, starting the car without the AFC plugged in might be bad". So I got outside, AFC in hand, and hit the remote start.



She starts, sputters, and dies. Shit! I plug in the AFC and she starts and everything is fine, except the check engine light is on. It doesn't seem to feel like its in limp mode (I'd know right?). The light stays on though.

I'm thinking when it died that it triggered the ECU to turn on the light because somethign was fvcked. Now that everything is fine, do you think I just need to tell the ECU that so it'll turn off the light? It didn't hurt the engine did it?

it shouldn't be a problem, to remove the engine light unplug the battery to reset the ECU and plug it back and it will be just as new.

 

id think the engine light would come BACK ON if there WAS a problem. so just turn it off. why did you disconnect the unit?

I removed it because I'm installing it in the sunglass holder. I wasn't comlpetely happy with my paint job (and it got a ding in it ) so I took it out to repaint the sunglass holder. Its all repainted (after hours of sanding the SOB ) and ready to go back in! I'll post some pics tomorrow.
