I have a Viper 550ESP Alarm/Remote Starter.
I'm very satisfied with it!
Basic unit/install was $500 at Mobile Fantasy in So. Cali. Most likely this doesn't help you in NJ!

Cool! I was thinking of getting that myself. What's the deal with the ESP? That's the one where you can remote start your car via a telephone number, right? Does that cost extra?

Does the Viper 550 do the two-step auto door unlocking that the stock alarm does?

Does that disable stock alarm and/or void warranty?

no it doesn't disable the stock alarm and no it doesn't void the warranty...it should cost $700-$800 installed...

Viper 550ES for $500 is cheaper
Do you know of any other remote starters?

BTW, does any of these work on a car with manual transmission?
I want to put one on my wife's S2000 as well.

You will need another module to make it work, plus another key! The extra key will go into that module! The module is an extra $70 and the key is about $10-$15 from Acura.
I got my key from my local Acura dealer, they just programmed the key and left it uncut!

Not sure about that! I don't have memory seats. What is fob? (I know you're not talking about "fresh off the boat"! )
Maybe I'm the "fob" for not knowing what you mean!

I'm sorry. I didn't know fob has a different meaning in Californian language.
A fob is a small pad or chain type of thing.
key fob or key fobs are the terms manufacturers use to describe that little thing that you might call a "remote".
I usually call it key chain or remote, but Acura has been calling it a key fob.

For just a remote starter, Best Buy and Circuit City's have $150 ones. If you know someone who works there, you can get it installed for ~$60.

But I recommend against it for our cars. TL's are too good for that. My parents have a cheap Winstar that I put one on. Works just fine.

Viper does have that option to call in via telephone but it is an additional option, don't know how much.
No, the Viper doesn't do the two-step auto door locks like the stock one does. That was actually my complaint too! You can modify the Viper alarm to do that, but will just take up another channel on your remote. I didn't opt for it cause I used up all my channels already (windows roll down, trunk release).

No, the Viper series does not work with manual trannys. There are ones out there that do, however, I probably wouldn't do it on a manual tranny. Safety reasons!
