Delay going into reverse

I noticed that after my car had about 10 or 15K that my auto tranny took longer and longer to engage into reverse. The tranny seems to shift OK when driving and the car shifts and drives great, but whenever I back up, I have to wait for several seconds for it to engage into reverse. It is especially bad when the car is cold. Is this normal and is there any thing that can be done to improve this? How many have noticed the same thing?

Mine does the same thing, and when it does engage it engages with a pronounced 'clunk'. I hoping its somewhat normal since mine has been doing that for a long time now.

Yep, that would be a good start.

And I do recall that delay in engagement into reverse is an early sign of transmission failure.

Which means diddly squat.

They said the air hissing sound from the leaking brake booster on my car was normal.

I'll trust dealerships when hell freezes over.

Just for comparison, my '03 TL-S has about 33k miles, and there's no apparent delay in reverse engagement.

I'm on tranny #2. I have 28K on the car. Tranny #1 was replaced at 25K.

The exact same thing applied to me with my tranny. It started in Nov of the one year, by the following July it was toast. Dealer couldn't diagnose any problem with it in between the nine months.

i called the dealer and told them about the delay and they told me that it's not normal and for me to bring it in so they can check it out.
