Deeper Exhaust Note

I'd like to have a deeper exhaust note for my TLS. I'd like something that sounds sportier but not like an "oil-can" exhaust system from a modded out Civic or Corrolla. Is there a bolt-on muffler or exhaust that provides a more aggressive sound?

I tried to do a search but....

Any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like you are describing the Comptech exhaust.

Click on THIS link. Scroll down to the Comptech section.

Click on Axleback exhausts. There are two sound clips so you can hear what they sound like.

I love mine.

The Comptech SS exhaust is great, but it's never going to give you the sound of a V8. The Acura V6, with its high RPM VTEC screamer, will not replicate the growl of an SVT Mustang or Corvette, no matter what you do. It sounds good for a V6, and it won't be confused with a coffee can on a four-banger.

I do like the sound of my Comptech exhaust but it'd be nice to have it throttlier when I step on it. I get the best note around 2000rpm. Sometimes when I'm going under an overpass or something, I would try to step on it but when it passes that 2000k rpm range, it gets quiet. Oh well...

You should treasure your quiet exhaust.. some of us have such loud cars, we can't hear anything else.. I for one am lookig forward to driving a quiet car.. BUT, I do plan to build a hot rod in the future, and IT will be very loud!!

Thanks Guys! This is what I was looking for. R Man - you nailed it...it would have been nice to get that V8 rumble under WOT but alas, it seems it is not to be. (Man, that 2003 Mustang Cobra R is a must have!!)

Consensus seems to be Comptech so I'll look into that. Thanks again fellas!

Go to a custom exhaust shop and have them replace the small pre-muffler/resonator with a startight thru glass-pack. If you want it louder than that, just have them take out the small pre-muffler and put in a straight pipe. If that's too loud, you can go back and have them put the glass-pack in.

Let me know how it goes. It took me 5 mods to come up with this config and I think it sounds pretty good.

I have mirror finish Magnaflows mufflers with custon cat back piping. I have had so many compliments on how good it sounds. Its a very low deep rumble.

Hows the level of interior noise? How much can you hear it from inside the car?

Getting closer...

wakkolio - can you please provide part number and pricing for your magnaflow set-up?

#3_forever - any recommendations for the right straight through, glass pack muffler? This seems the like the least expensive way to get the sound I'm looking for. The only one I found was by Holley called the "Red Hots!". No idea if these would fit.

Anyone else have experience with either of these two approaches? Also, does anyone have the universal sizing dimensions for the Type S muffler?

Thanks!

bricot - The level of the interior noise is not that bad if you leave the resonators on, but if you take it off its pretty bad.

The Skeptic - The model number is 14832. The price of the setup costed me $475 w/2.5inch custom mandrel bend cat back pipping.
