Post Deals in Houston (questions not statements)

Are they possible? What is a good price to pay in this area? 5% over invoice? Although with none of the online sites showing the invoice price this is much harder to do...
Currently working with John Eagle... anybody had a good or bad experience?
Looking to move into a TL-S within the week.
Any help appreciated!

If you get 5% over invoice, that seems like a deal! Here in Chi-town, they don't want to deal...I hear some people are opting to buy in Wisconsin and Indiana. The best I've seen is 1K under MSRP. That doesn't seem to be much of a deal. Your 5% over Invy seems like something to jump on. Does that include destination, too?

I bought my TLS at John Eagle Acura and I think I got a pretty good deal. They said it's because I am a previous Acura owner (I traded in my '00 TL), but I'm sure you could get them to deal anyway. Here's the deal I got from them on my '02 TLS with Navi:

$700 under MSRP
All accessories at cost - I got the spoiler and underbody kit
They threw in - window tinting, moonroof visor, paint sealant, interior sealant.

Another thing I liked about John Eagle is they include the first 2 years maintenance at no charge. If you drive 15k miles per year, that's worth about $800.

I bought my '00 TL at Gillman Acura. At that time, they beat John Eagle on the price by a few hundred dollars, but they didn't include the maintenance. When I started servicing my Acura, I realized how valuable that really was. Also, Gillman ticked me off because they said they would throw in the sealants, but they really didn't. When I asked about it, the salesman kind of brushed over it and claimed they had done it. At John Eagle, I got a written 5 year warranty for the sealant coverage, so I know they did the work (and if they didn't, who cares - they are still bound by the warrantee if anything happens).

Let me know what you end up with. It's always nice to see other TLS owners in Houston.

John Eagle currently offering me 1000 off MSRP... im looking for 1500-2000 off MSRP (including my options)...
Will be interesting to see. I was an integra owner that got an a4 in between time. Looking at Aegean Blue with NAV, body kit i am sorta thinking about, will depend on the deal they offer.
Still hoping they give me a fair offer on the a4, so i dont have to worry about title transfer and sales tax. However i doubt they will offer what i can get selling it outright.
Hope to take possession of TL-S within the next 10 days.

Thanks and yeah be good to have a lil crew of us in Houston.

That might be doable. If you look at the total value of my deal - what they knocked off, threw in, etc., it came out to around $1500-2000 off MSRP (depends on who you believe for the MSRP on the options).

They also should be willing to deal on the blues, since they have a boatload of them on their lot. There are several up front, and a week ago they had another 15 on the back lot. I think they only had a couple with Navis.

Of course, you could always get them to sell you that blue one on the showroom floor.

As far as your tradein - they definitely won't give you what you could sell it for outright, but it will probably be enough to make it worthwhile.

I traded in an '00 TL, and they gave me $21,800 for it. I went to CarMax and they offered me $23,000 for it. By trading it in, I saved $1362.50 in taxes, so I actually came out a couple hundred ahead. I might have been able to get a little more selling it myself, but I figured since you can buy a brand new TL for $26,000 it would be hard to get more than 23k for a used one. Combine that with the softening economy, and I figured it would be easier to let them sell it.

No, it was MSRP. I corrected the original post.

Thanks for catching that.

Thanks Mike... i think i have enough data now to go in and make a deal that is fair for both JE and me.
CarMax offered me 21.5 on a car that bluebooks at 27k. LOL!!! i will see what JE will do if anything. i would take 24K from JE just to move it and not deal with the tax. Hopefully they will play. They have 6 aegean available today. (According to internet manager) I could be in the car by the weekend. We'll see.

Thanks again.

I just inked a deal for Silver TLS no navi for 30K. Called 6 dealers the other five said they wouldn't go below 31K. Can't wait to join the club!

I have used CarMax twice now to appraise vehicles, and both times they have appraised them for a little more than the dealer offered.

As for blue book - the blue book on my '00 TL was 24,000 trade-in. There's no way I would ever get that on a trade-in, since you can buy a new one for 2k more. Anyway, I have always found the blue book to be very high.

If you haven't already, look in the Chronicle (www.chron.com) and see what cars similar to yours are selling for. A lot of the listings are for dealers, so that gives you a good idea what the dealer will sell it for, so you know if you are getting raped on the trade.

Thumbs up

I would have to agree with the guy from Chicago...being that I'm also from Chicago(NORTH SIDE!!!) I must admit, these dealers aren't really budging with price at this moment. I'm in the market for a blue or, black, or heather mist TL (99-2000) model line with nav under 40000 miles for around $20,000. Here on this forum, I've had people tell me that this isn't possible and I've had others assure me that it was by telling me how low they paid for their cars now. How this relates to you is this: I believe with these car deals, anythings possible. If you are in the market for a 2002 TL even an "S" model, the decision on price relies heavily on whether or not you get navigation. My 2 cents....go for it if your budget allows. Out the door, the ceiling should be $30,000.00. Me myself and I, are going for a 99-00 TL slightly used in the summer. I've got my own plans as to how I will get over on the dealer....depends on how much you'll put down because I've got some guys (salesmen) from out here eating out of my hand right now simply because I mentioned that I was putting alot down....they "claim" that they will do whatever it takes to make sure my demands are met...whatever that means right? (LOL) From the looks of things, you're probably better waiting a little bit longer(until the summer~july) and going for your tl/tls during the second half model year season.........(Sorry this is so long guys)

just my 2 cents........

tiguy99 - You better watch your a** when working with these dealers. Remember this - the dealer could care less how much you put down. They get the same amount of money whether you put nothing down or half. The finance company cares, because they have less at risk the more you put down.

Be very careful, because I suspect the reason these dealers are being so nice to you is this:

If they know you are going to put a lot of money down, they think they can sell the car to you at a huge profit and you will still think you are getting a good deal, because your payment will be so low. Of course, the real reason your payment is so low is because of the down payment.

It is best to never discuss any of the terms of the financing until you have negotiated the price of the vehicle. And never tell them what kind of a monthly payment you are looking for, because they can easily screw you and get you the payment you want at the same time.

I will in the future...I'm actually glad I didn't mention how much I actually were going to put down...I just used a little ammunition to get their attention...even though it may come back to haunt me. What do you guys think I should do from here? A fax attack? I need some imput. Thanks
