Question De-Badging the TL-S......Voluntaritly!

Anyone take the TL-S badge (or more) off of their tail? Did you do it for effect, or to get the emblems before someone else did?

Cool

I'll keep them on, just to let people know that I am driving a real TypeS.

I de-badged the whole rear except the "A", which would have left two holes into the trunk. I know I have promised pics but I have a friend visiting this weekend who I am sure can post them.

I don't care if anyone knows I am driving a Type-S. All they need to know is that are flooring it and I am still zipping by!

Zodiak --

you see on your pic of the rear-end of your TL-S where the exhaust pipes under the car are rusting -- I sanded that down and painted it gloss black (engine paint) -- it looks kick ass now -- i bet yours would look just as good if you did that -- it's hardly a ten minute job and the can of spray paint only cost me $6.00.

Just a thought.

Davidas - I have it stored securely in an envelope, and i'll probably keep it there I have a feeling that if i ever want to sell this car privately, the buyer will want it on. But thanks for the offer.

Pete - funny you should mention that, because i was following another TL the other day in traffic, and was thinking of somehow covering up the bottom, maybe even with something like a modified skidplate. Painting it might be a much simpler solution. But, I wonder if any paint i can get will be able to withstand the conditions there, or will i need to repaint it every month? How's yours holding up? Anyone else try this?

Dragon - the tinting was done at Guaranteed Alrams in Brooklyn (corner of Neptune and Coney Island), and its the best shop i've seen around NY. The tint goes all the way up to the edge of the window, and its flawless. I've had four cars done there in the last five years, and three of them are still on the road with no issues. They also give u a warranty on it, so if something goes wrong, they'll replace it no questions asked. But i've never seen anyone come back with a problem. (I should be getting paid for plugging them like this.)

i've stopped by there for a minor audio thing a couple of years back. no comments one way or the other about them. but the guy i mentioned does the tint all the way to the edge. there's no line between the tint and the edge. i think thats how everyone should do it, but not everyone knows how

As someone who has lost a 1/2 dozen VTEC and GS-R tags from my car. That is the first thing I am taking off. Its not that I care much about the cost of replacing them, thats minor. Its the fact that half the punks botch the job and scratch the paint. Now that ticks me off. I have spent the last few years w/o a problem, mostly because there no badges on my car now.

just my $0.02

Zodiak --

I painted mine nearly two weeks ago w/ the high-heat engine paint -- and so far so good. I've been through rain and rough roads w/ it, and not only does it retain its gloss very well, it looks OEM so as not to indicated a $6 paint job.

How DO you get them off without scratching the paint? Inquiring minds want to know...

Heat gun and Dental floss (no not a thong)

Heat it up, run the floss behind the badge. And poof it falls off.

At least that is the way it came off the GS-R.

BTW: I used an industrial heat gun, but a hair dryer should work.

Be careful with the hair dryer. Don't leave it pointed at the paint too long. Use a short sweeping motion. Same goes for the heat gun, but it's more important for the hair dryer because it will damage the paint around the emblem. If you use small cotton string you don't need the heat gun, and you don't make your fingers really sore.

Forget all that, on a warm sunny day just pull the emblem; it will come off no problem. I just removed the 3.2 part of the rear tags so now my car just reads TL Type-S in the uipper corner. I just pulled at it and it came off real easy
