De-Badging?

What are everyone's thoughts on debadging your TL. I'm kind of 50-50 on doing it right now. I really don't know how it would look. If I were to debadge what should I do the 3.2TL, the ACURA or the 3.2TL and the ACURA. It would be very simple if I had 200-300 dollars to shave the trunk because I've seen how that looks on a couple TL's one being andytran and it looks freakin clean. Here's a link to my car. Give me some inputs and suggestions on what I should do. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/669202

personally, i think the trunk looks too bare once all the emblems are gone... i think a nice visual balance is leaving the "A" and A C U R A and just removing the 3.2TL...

Its possible to put them back you would just need some 3M Double sided tape but with the A C U R A i think it would be hard to get it back the way it was.

I agree
I think if you wanted to put it on again, you could always line it up on a piece or paper and put them on that way. or just buy new ones at the dealership

When I got the new paintjob on my car I think they kind of messed up taking the ACURA off because you can just barely see where the old letters were. You can only see it really close up but I think I'm going to just take the 3.2TL off and see how it looks. Also got some 02-03 taillights in the mail so it should look pretty sweet.

Just take the 3.2 TL off. It's so out of place and ruine the yin and yang of the car. Plus the 3.2 TL is easiest to put back on, all you need is the high bond 3M tape sold at all auto places for like 4 dollars.

Also I don't like to lose things.....so this is where I put the 3.2 TL badage.

Here some tips:

Use floss to debage, just stick it between the badge and the car and work your way in a direction. Some people suggest fishing line since it won't break so easily but I rather have the floss break every so often then the paint be taken with the badge.

If you want to debage the A C U R A and later decide to put it back. Don't try to align it yourself. You can just buy the badge kit, its only like 20-30 dollars I believe (might be cheaper). It comes prealign. You can call 1888RAYLAKS and talk to Tim for pricing. Realigning the old A C U R A is too much of a pain.

If you remove the A. There are two holes under it. You need to bondo and repaint your trunk to cover these holes. Not worth it IMO.

There's a size difference between 99-01 and 02-03 TLs? I didn't know that.

Yes there is definitely a size difference in the "A" between the 99TL and 02-03TL. Also the A on the front of the car is smaller on the 99's....I still like the look of them though

Yea I like how it looks alot and with the black-out headlights it fits right in. Last night I took off the 3.2TL and I like how it looks so I'm just gonna keep it like that. Shaving the trunk is definitly going to be a project in the future. Or I may get lucky and some old lady dents the trunk and then I tell her I need a new one.

i like the clean rear look leaving only the "A" up, the 02-03 "A" logo is alot bigger compared tot he 99-01's, with the 3.2tl badge i ended up using double sided tape and placing it on the little pop out tray above the stereo, looks so good as if it came stock that way just my 2 cents.

that could look pretty cool, actually! i just put my finger over the "A" in pic above (hzm82's white car) - just leaving "A C U R A" visible and it looks pretty nice!

doesn't look to messy, doesn't look to bare... glad i gave you an idea.

only thing is the friggin A badge is a bitch to remove because of those two bolts into the trunk.

i've heard some people say the looks afterwards isn't worth the removal......an exception in this case though. -shawn

I'm almost positive it's an M5 spoiler, they go for about 150-160 bucks at any BMW dealer unpainted........That's a mod I've wanted, but haven't got around to doing.......

Anybody have pics of the black chrome kit, preferably on a NBP TL? I was also looking into this mod as well, but not sure how it looks when completed.

Should be easy to photoshop a TL rear end showing the A C U R A but removing the A and replacing it with body color. You should be able to get a good idea of what it would look like and whether it would be worth the hassle. Anyone?

temporary fix....doesn't look too bad ....

EDIT: Oh BTW- yes i think it's definitely worth the hassle....seeing as it'll look 100 times better when it's DONE RIGHT (not just photochopped)....(or Microsoft Paint in my case...lol).

yes there is: oh, the guy had gold lettering before, not chrome.....anyway, yes there was a site with pics that compared...it's a difference...i think you'd like it.

EDIT: okay for example, the pic of the BLUE TL with only the A C U R A on it, is NOT BLACK CHROME.

Ever since I de-badged my car. People drive close to the car to find out what the hell car is that. It actully brought "more" attention to my car.

Folks, I just finished removing the badges on my car and I love it! I used a typical wax dental floss to remove the badges and a little Goo Gone and my nail to scrape off the glue from the adhesive. I only have 2 STRONG suggestion to all - 1) wash the area thoroughly to removy any debris that can scratch the paint when you are pulling the floss through in a sawing motion and 2) file your nails. It sounds stupid, but a sharp edge on your nail can strach the clear coat. If this happens, the adhesive gets into it and makes it noticable. Good luck and enjoy the clean look
