I think he may be referring to removing the entire dash, from his pics it looks like he got the cluster removed. If so, it looks like a lot of work, check post #11 in fsttyms1 6 speed conversion thread, that's where he removed his dash. It looks like a lot more comes out with it than just the dash.

there is more than 5 screws holding the whole dash in. There are 4 on each side of the dash you get access to with the doors open. You have to drop the steering column. you have to undo all the electrical harnesses from the multiplexes and the SRS connectors. there are a bunch in the center console area. I dont have my manual near me but i will say it will be alot of work if you dont know what your looking for (and you will want the seats out and 2 people to help you
eh i just masked the window and painted it. came out like 95% painted still.
