how do you get the black background on all the guages, etc, like the speedometer, the fuel indicator, temp. indicator, etc? I noticed that all the tl-s's have the white background, but on the brochure they have the black one. just curious.

I believe the black background versus white background has to do with the time of day you're looking at the car. During the daytime/when your lights are off, the background is white ... During the night time when you have your lights on the background turns black. This is a "feature" of the car ... At least thats what my salesman kept telling me

The white does not light up, at night the needle and numbers are lit up. This gives the apperence of black. I have a type s and it is a little dimmer at night but i wouldn't say its a feature. If the picture you are looking at in the brochure is is actually black than maybee its a pic of the TL-P.

I just looked in the brochure for the 2003 TL, and it is in fact a TL-S that is shown with the lights on giving the background a black look to it. If you look at the center of the background however you can tell it is sortof white-ish ... you really need to see it in person to understand how it looks.
