Does anyone know if it's safe to drive with Check Engine light on? It happen yesterday after I got off freeway my check Engine light TCS light are on and D5 is flashing after that check engine light won't go off. After that it skips second gear first gear go up to 5k rpm and a real hard jerk than go to 3rd gear. I call the dealer today they told if it's regarding the tranny than it's safe to drive. Why don't you just call the dealer and have them tow the vehicle??? They should do that, right???

most dealers won't give you a loaner for a week, they should just give you a rental car and they pick up the tab, if not, you should demand it.
Welcome to the club of busted tranny's!

OK, if you have to drive on the highway for 50 miles to get to the dealership, then definitely don't risk it and call the dealership. If they won't do it, then call Acura Roadside Assistance. They will tow it to the dealership. The dealership should do it, though, since the bill would go to the same place, anyway (Acura corporate).

Also, there aren't two kinds of transmissions.. All replacement transmissions are refurbished units, and they supposedly have the "fix". But even those fail, so it sucks ass.

Good luck, and please don't drive it on the highway. If the dealership or Roadside Assistance give you shit for it, then tell 'em to suck a dick, because I, or anybody else here, certainly don't want to hear of another member spinning out and losing control on the highway because the transmission locked up.

I just went to the serramonte dealer like 3 weeks ago and while i was there for a 15k mile service.... i saw some old guy getting a loaner from them... so i think they are just bull shitting you

on the other hand......while i was there.....they offered to give me a ride to whereever i needed to go...... but if you need a car for more than one day i guess you can try to demand a loaner

You do NOT want this to happen, it happened to mine when I was on the freeway doin 80mph in the fast lane. I called Acura Roadside Assistance and they came and towed the car, then again, I had no other way to drive it because it wouldn't move

and plus if it's already slipping you probably wont get anouther 10 miles before it will act like its in nuetral. Oh ya im on my 5th one so i know. and also Acura roadside is NOT ext along w/ the tranny warr. extention. so if you have over 50k mile you have no Acura Roadside, however they probably will tow it under "good faith" once.

Yeah, but that extended warranty does not cover towing. But the dealership most likely will.

Sorry to hear.

I am in Fremont with an 01 Black TL. 40k. No transmission problems (yet).

Were there any other symptoms before the lights came on?
Will the car even upshift into 5th anymore?

Check out Acura of Concord. They may be closer than Pleasanton for you.

Pure Adrenaline, I read here before that someone said that the dealer gave them a redesigned tranny and that whenever our tranny blows that we should demand the redesigned tranny and not the refurbished one. The redesigned trannies are the brand new trannes with the flaw corrected, whereas the refurbished tranny is an old tranny with the glitch corrected... I am just utilizing his statement, I assumed that was in fact true, if not, then i apologize for misinforming you, blue01tl...

I brought in my car last week and the custumer rep. ask me leave the car there and gave me a loaner. been a week now she called me and said they replaced the tranny and tested the tranny is defected and so they have to order me another one. It should be ready in another week.

Pleasanton gave me a TL-P loaner for 3 weeks cuz my parts were on back order when I brought it in. It was the vapor recovery system not the tranny. Thats why I normally take my car to them. Loaners are normally easy to get and they don't care if I have it for a few days if my car ain't ready.

towing is covered if the malfunction was a covered part. If it was a timing belt, towing wouldn't covered.

Why did you wait to bring it to the dealer if you already noticed problems? Also, did you already have the oil jet installed before this happened?

if you have a 00 to 03 TL i believe that the tranny is warrantied to 100k. You may want to log onto acura.com and enter your vin to see if you have the "extended" coverage... 00TL here and covered for 100K. I just changed my tranny fluid and installed a tranny cooler. I SAW SMALL SILVER FLAKES IN THE FLUID!?! Okay you guys, all together now, is this a problem or not a big deal at all... feedback?
