A cure for another TL problem

Here you go guys.

If any of you are experiencing your gas guage fluctuating like insane amounts, then it is simply a faulty fuel sending unit. I asked a friend of mine on this forum about it (Tatewaki), and he said it's normal for the gas guage to move a little bit. In my case though, I would turn off the car, then turn it back on, and experience the gas gauge to be 1/4 lower then it was. I took it to the dealer today where they took note of the problem, and have seen this happen in a lot of the Second Gen TL's.

If you have any concerns about your gas gauge not being accurate, or for some reason fluctuating more then it should be, go to the dealer and have them look at the "Fuel Sending Unit".

later guyz.

This is not another TL problem this happens to many other cars as well. I had that same problem with my 1994 HONDA ACCORD EX. I purchased that car brand new in September of 1993 & it took 2yrs for that to happen. I took it to the dealer & they fixed it under warranty. At that time the dealer told me that they had a bad batch of fuel sending units in some cars. This happen to other makes as well.

there currently isn't a recall on the fuel sending units, but it's a known problem throughout all Honda/Acura models. I do know so far one guy on this forum is on his 4th fuel sending unit on his 99TL. So it's definitely a cause for concern. If your gauge is always fluctuating, then you should go to the dealer and tell them to test the fuel sending unit. I did that, and within an hour they called me to tell me I was right, the fuel sending unit had gone bad. Since then, I've gone 60km or 40 miles, and my needle is sitting on the first line below the "Full" line, and that's 100% city driving, so I definitely think it also made a difference in gas mileage too.

My gas mileage before was about 300km to the tank in the city, and based on the needle this time, I'm predicting atleast 500km in the city. I'm happy!!!

mine has been playing tricks on me since new. Thanks for the info. I thought I was crazy

I have already gotten used to seeing the needle at a lower click in the morning than the night before. I thought maybe little green men came and drank some gas while the car sat in the garage overnight.

Also during my commute, for example the gas gauge indicates that I have 1/4 tank left, then toward the end of the commute it becomes MUCH less optimistic.

Has anyone not under Acura warranty had their fuel sending unit replaced? My TL is no longer under warranty but I am experiencing this fluctuation. Just wanted to know how much they are going to try to charge me.
