Crashed my TL
Sup fellas
As you can tell from the title of this post, I have some not-so-good news. I crashed my TL this afternoon on my way home from work. It was snowing *heavily* and I lost control on a swervy and narrow road. My rear end started to fishtail and my instinct was to slam on the brakes. Note to self...next time, do NOT slam on the brakes. But I did, making the fishtail even worse until my car eventually came to an abrupt rest against a telephone pole. The point of impact was the corner of the rear bumper, along the passenger side. The entire bumper was nearly ripped off the car, as it was dragging by a thread...literally.
To summarize the damage, my rear bumper is shredded, my tail lights are cracked and shattered, my rear spoiler is cracked and separated from the trunk lid, the trunk lid will no longer shut, and...you get the idea. After quickly surveying the damage, I drove the remaining 2 miles home, my rear bumper dragging behind me the whole time. The guy stuck behind me must have been like WTF. I was really fortunate to not have struck another vehicle or even worse. Although the road was narrow and windy, it is a fairly busy street.
So what now? I gotta fix my car! I'm hoping to work a deal with my bodyshop so that they'll bill my insurance company for fixing the car, and in addition add a few things like a WW flush mount lip spoiler, clear tail lights, and possibly a body kit. I figure if I have to do the rear end all over again, I might as well do it in style.
Anyone have any suggestions and/or ideas? And save the wisecracks, like drive slower, etc. I acknowledge my mistake and am grateful that no one was hurt by it.
What a way to start off the new year...with a BANG (because that's the sound my car made when it came to rest next to the telephone pole)
And a loud one at that.

agreed... value rear bumper, new style tails, and honestly i like the M5 spolier the best out of all of them...
Good your OK, think if it this way, good thing you hit the back corner and not someplace really vital...

I was probably going about 30 or 35 tops. I know...too fast. I will definitely take this as a lesson learned.
Another factor may be that I have 225/60R16 tires on the stock rims, and the tread on the rear tires are getting low. It's no excuse, but probably a minor contributing factor.
Thanks for your concern, guys.

Damn! I feel for you too! Spent a few years driving through the snow is St. Louis and had a few near-misses myself. Now I'm snowless in SoCal.
Good luck with your repairs... hopefully you'll get your baby back real soon.

V.
