Cracked P.O.S. header
had my OBX header for about a year and i noticed this put-put-put noise coming from my engine... over few months it progresively got louder. it's got cracks along the welding on the headers. other two pipes in the front are starting to crack and you can see the black smoke stain along the cracks...the picture here was cleaned up with photoshop along the crack to brighten it up a little and show u better shot of the crack. I'll be ordering comptech headers pretty soon. some ppl like OBX and some ppl don't...i can say that i've enjoyed the OBX while it lasted but i should of went with comptech from the begining.

Dang, I'll definitely be going with Comptech. But that same things happened to my DC Sports Header on my Civic. And DC Sports is a pretty reputable brand for mods. I never cared for OBX anyway, I think it's worth the extra dough to get the CT. Sorry to hear about that happening to you though!

would it be possible to re-weld the crack? you shouldn't have to but its much cheaper than droppin' a g on the comptechs. if you got comptech money go comptech, if not , it seems reasonable to fix

wow, I have OBX and I'm a little worried. It think I would weld it once before I drop a G for comptechs. I just don't think I'll have this car for more then 2 more years.

This is usual for stainless steel headers. SS is very strong, but cannot be welded very well. So the weak areas will always be at the welding seams. If the header is not designed to fit exactly, more stress will be placed onto the seams, and cracks will occur sooner. But headers are always under stress because the exhaust plumbings are allowed to swing even during normal drivings. Cracks are less likely to develop on ceramic coated iron headers because of the more malleable nature of the softer iron.

Sorry to say but OBX warranty is a scam and you can trust me on this. Just call them up and find out for yourself....But basically what you'll get is "Thanks for purchasing the header....now go away and fix the problem yourself."

O.G.
A used CT header is still better than a new obx header. That's what I did. I bought a used CT header from one of the members here and it has been just fine for over a year now.

Damn you have huge hairline crack. I actually have part of the weld missing from my crack OBX header.
Like Random said, OBX warranty is ****. I e-mailed them, they asked me for my warrenty card, i never filled it out and i can't find it...the headers are suppose to be lifetime warranty anyways, so who cares. They said, they can't do anything with the warranty card, try to contact seller. So I contacted the person i bought it from, he was authorized dealer. He told me to contact OBX. I didn't get any help from them.
I've been driving for 4 months with an exhaust leak from the cracked headers. I just got to ordering OEM gaskets to have them rewelded. Hope they don't crack again, don't have money for CT.

Why dont you guys pick up some Stone Headers... Ive had them on my car for a few month and no problems. Knock on wood. They are only 400 shipped. Much better than dropping a grand on CT headers...

I've been looking at the Stone Headers but can't find where to buy them (the guy on the CL board hasn't had them for sale for a bit)
Would Jet-Hot coating the OBX headers help with the cracking? I got a quote and it's only $195 to get the coating (that's for inside and out). That's why I was considering them.

I did a while ago and he said he'd let me know about them. He hasn't been on the boards for quite some time. Hopefully he's got some in the spring or I'll end up going with the OBX
