well i was wonderiing if u can take some pictures of where u installed the LED and with or without the doorhandle... and how u remove it and stuff.. i know its too much to ask.... but a nice DYI with this info would be GREATLYYYYYYYYY appreciated.. who knows.. this mod might become a COMMON mod... and soon pass on to many other cars since it looks HOT at night.. when u walk down to ur car.. and unlock it.. boom.. ur car tells u where the fuck the door handle is hehehe..

just hot!! ahh i'm so excited.. funny how an idea can go a long way as long as someone points it out....

good luck with the other doors CHris..

No... There is a small gap between the door handle and the door... I just ran the wire in there. I will take a bunch of pics tonight when its all done.. maybe ill make a small DIY and make a new thread.

ok, so i am not done yet.. I need to figure out how to wire all the LEDs together and to the car.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know... Right now im thinking maybe an add a fuse on the fuse labeled courtesy light? If that doesnt work, i think im going to have to find a way to wire them all to the dome light..

i need some ideas.

True. I haven't experienced the pain of running wires through the factory loom, but if it's anything like the other cars I've owned...it's a PITA.

Couldn't you splice the wires together just behind the fuse box, eventually running only one wire to the fuse you pick? Wouldn't that work?

not sure plus I don’t know what wires to tap into... what i need to find is the lead that triggers the dome light when the car is unlocked..

If anyone can help me find the lead the triggers the dome light when the car is unlocked, that would be awesome!

im off to work again, ill try to figure this out when i get home.

I have a 3G tl, and just as a thought, why not tap into the little lights that illuminate the ground when you open the doors? (presuming you 2G tl's have them)

Those turn off as soon as you close the door. The dimming effect that the dome light has would be a lot nicer.

my lights on the bottom of the door are hooked up to that light and works good. but the door handles need to be hooked up to the dome light that fades. just dont want to run a wire from the top to the bottom i know there has to be something around the fuse box area....????

i have found a way. The dome light wires run down the right front pillar. You need to tap into this. I need to pick up a few things from radio shack, so if all goes well, i will be done tomorrow.

for whoever asked: i have one LED per door. and the color is white/hyper white.

Unless someone knows how to run wires through our factory loom, then im deeming it nearly impossible! The back doors, maybe... but I think the fronts are impossible. I don’t know how to get behind the fuse boxes to where the wires from the door come into the car. The front door wires come in about 6-12 inches behind the fuse boxes on either side... and i really have no clue to get my hand back there to run a wire into the door ( i cant run wires from the door to the body cuz I cant reach all the way to that part inside the door, plus the loom goes in then up).
^^i hope that made sense, you really have to know what im talking about to understand it

So, what im doing is.. I am wiring the front door handle LEDs to the inside front door lights, then im wiring the door lights to the dome light trigger... so when I unlock the car, the dome light, inside door lights, and outside door handles all come on(and fade out) at the same time.

Not sure when Im going to finish this up... but it should be soon. will update with pics when im done.

excellent idea.. in a way.. it will light up the bottom portion of the car when the dome light is on since the bottom door lights will now also light up.... especially the back... the light i think is right near the legs so it'll be perfect for those ppl that drop change and stuff.. .. COOL MOD..

i'm gonna do this probably tomorrow... and put super bright leds since it will now lgiht up the bottom portion of the car as well... GOOD THINKING....

now.. the problem is.. where do u find the wires/fuse that is responsible for turning on the DOOR lights?

Its not impossible to do. Pull the rubber boot out of its spot between the door and the body (both sides) Slide the wire thru both ends of the boot and run the wire each direction from there.

Rear doors can be done by opening the front doors to gain access to the boots easiest

Do you know how to get access to where the wires come into the car from the front door? I can see them all bundled behind the passenger side fuse box, but i dont know how to get behind the fuse box(they are about 8-10 inches behind the fuse box).

Pull the cover off like your looking at the fuses. They come out right there. If you pull the rubber boot off like i said, then you can push them thru from the outside in and you can just push the wire till you see it. I cant really describe it any better than that. Ive done it before and it isnt that hard
If you remove the glove box and lower dash panel you will get more room around it but isnt necessary

There arent any bolts that hold the glove box and the trim around it on. there are just a few screws

Honestly taking it off really wont give you much if any more room. You will have to do it the way i recommended and just push the wire thru till you see it.

Oops. (mental note, need to quit reading 3 different threads at once)

Try applying pressure to the hook (pulling on it) to see if you can apply enough pressure to be able to get it to unscrew

You tried for 30 minutes, but did you try putting a flat head screw driver behind / under it to apply pressure?

door handles,under door lights

Hey everyone i had this done last week i just had time to upload the pictures. If you have questions just ask and ill try to answer the best I can.
I have not dont the back doors yet thats for tomorrow or friday.

the first way of doing only if you do four leds you can run them like this and just run twelve volts to them with out a resistor.....+-+-+-+- (if they are the 3-4V leds

These are the led i used

i had five so this is the route i went and used a resistor to govern the voltage

i put liquad tape on first aka glue then let it dry and put masking tape so i dont touch any metal on the safe side

door lights

just a little hid aciton to add

Good job, dude. Out of curiosity (it could be the pics) but why did you mount the leds so low in the door handle? Seems like higher in the handle would have hidden the "bulbs" from view, or are there issues with mounting them higher?

im using the super bright leds..

and i took the pics that way, when your outside looking at the car you cant see them unless you look under the handle. the pictures are of the passenger side i put 5 leds way to much they are so bright that is does'nt look so Courtest.

i did the drivers side with two one on each end and placed them higher and it looks cleaner then five. ill take more pics this week and do an accurate diy.. and the leds i used on the bottom of the door panel are time consuming to do but worth it.

and last thing you can only place the leds so high in their with out it being in the way of the moving parts of the handle.

i wired them to the door light so when i open the door they handles light up and so does the bottom of the door. tomorrow im going to run the dome light wires to the door and have them go on when i push the unlock button on my fob

did you grind down your leds? The leds on the bottom of the doors look like they are putting light in that one area... if they were grinded/flattened they should be directing light all over.

what about the rear doors, and how about some pics of how you wired it to the car? do you have it connected to the dome light? well, since you finished your, i have to go finish mine now. lol. good work man.

no i did not grind down the lights yet im still testing all possible ways of doing it and the back doors are going to be next week. right now my focus is the front door handles and bottom of the doors.

i wired it to the light on the door in the front
