Question Correct way to check oil/ATF level?

Hi,
Can someone please tell me the correct way to check fluid level?

With engine cold
Start the car and let it warm up (5-10 mins)
Turn the car off
Remove the dip stick and clean it.
Insert the dip stick back then remove it
Check the oil level

Are the above steps right for checking oil level and ATF level?
Thank you.

Not sure what temp oil should be at, but just basically remove dip stick, clean it, then put it back in. Wait a few seconds for a proper reading then remove and check.

ATF, I think should be checked while the engine is running with the same procedure.

Just go for a ride 5-10miles should be OK
Turn off Car and Check Levels!!

NO our ATF Trans is not like a Ford our ATF level must be check at Temp (Hot) and the Fluid must be between The Middle with the Car Off!!

So to Sum Up:
When your Car is at Temp!

Engine Oil: Middle to Up Dot
ATF: Middle between dots!

At Cold:
Both oils must be in the Upper Dot!

Had to swap my tranny. The shop said it only took 9 qt of ATF. Is that right? I thought it took 12qt. Didn't want to post a new thread so this seem relatively close to my question. I have a 2003 TL type S. Thanks guys

edit: wait, it takes 9 qts to do a 3x3 change...if that's what you're referring to. otherwise, it's around ~3qt - 3.1 qt per change, iirc.

total capacity of trans from new/empty to full is 7.3 qts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ck your level by driving 15 minutes on freeway, from engine cold -
stop on level ground
engine off in park
Between the dots at that fluid temp is correct,,if over that go back to shop asap!!
overfilled will kill your trans
so will underfilled
