Question Coolant Color

Hi everyone,

I was replacing my high beam bulbs the other day, so I had to take out the coolant container on the driver's side.

Anyway, in doing so, I opened it up and noticed that the coolant is a VERY dark green. Is that normal? I thought coolant is supposed to be light green.:yack: (like that color).

I have about 24K miles on my car and I got it brand new last March.

Furthermore, I'm taking my car in for the 22.5K service for like $120 (lube chassis, rotate tires, etc) and will ask them to flush out the coolant. Do all of you guys take it in for service too? That maintenance required light bothers me. Kind of a rip-off I think.

Thanks in advance.

G

My car is new so I have not looked at my coolant yet.
However, I do know that not all coolant is the same shade of green.
You are okay if the coolant is clear. If it is murky, there might be some rust or contaminant in it.

That maintenance required light bothers me

Read the MANUAL on how to re-set the light.

What FULL SERVICE ??? :banghead:

You need to read your manual more carefully. Most of the time, it says INSPECT or ADJUST...NOT CHANGE (other than the oil). :banghead:

Any qualified mechanic can do that for you.
Cheaper ....and you don't get raked over the coals.

The coolant in our cars does not need to be changed untill around 45,000 miles. This should be around 4years our what ever comes first. I don't have the owners manual at the moment but am going by my dealers maintenanace schedule book that I got from the dealership when I got the car 3years ago.
Theis book has there recomended maintenanace for ACURA cars from 1996-2001.
