convert auto to 6 speed? how?

first off... if you dont know what you are talking about please dont whore my thread.... thanks to those who help me out...

i want to convert my auto tranny to 6 speed, few questions:

is this not recommended? why or why not?

what parts are needed exactly?

how much am i looking at for parts? (not including labor)

if needed, i would like the best and easiest steps to do so....

p.s. my buddy works on alot of d,b,h,k series motors.... and he has done many auto to manual tranny conversions... i was wondering if it would be okay to do this

Just sell your car and get a manual CL-s or a manual 04-05 TL will save you much hassle

It’s not THAT big of a deal...

It’s a nice project that would be fun and people would go crazy if they saw a 6spd TL.

Here's a brief idea of some of the stuff you would need. First let me start by saying it would NOT cost $5,000. If you bought every single little part that you need at retail price, you might get up to that. But when you buy a rebuilt tranny and everything a wholesale, I would imagine this costing much less, especially since you don’t need every little thing.

We have touched on this multiple times since the 6spd came out in '02, and ever since then I have looked it to it as my car drew closer and closer to being out of warranty. The few techs I know personally down at my dealership have talked with me in great detail about just how much shit it would take to do this, and its really not that bad.

- Rebuilt tranny
- Shift linkage
- Shifter
- Shift knob (whatever you want obviously)
- Clutch master cylinder
- Hydraulic lines
- The damn clutch pedal of course
- Tranny ECU
- The instrument cluster would be optional
- The mounts can be adapted
- A few misc rearranging under the hood
- Lots of other tiny things you find along the way

One of my tech said the hardest part would be running the clutch cables. BFD...

The only other serious thing would be that you would need new headers.

When my tranny blows up again, ill be god damned if I'm putting another broken-ass 4spd in it. It would be a fun project; no one has decided to actually do it yet.

Don't forget the VSA unit. The ECU will need to see that.

BTW, might I make the assumption that your buddy is working on cars that were offered in a manual?

This is a totally different animal since the interior has never been configured for that. Yes, the CL has, but it's not the same.

Expect to be in the $7000+ range. Search the CL forum. It's been discussed to death.

i agree, its not simple i looked into it for awhile after my 3rd tranny died.

getting the parts and stuff is the easy part, getting the car to run right is the hard part. (very hard part) i found the best way was to find the whole front clip in a salvage yard that you can take from for parts (just to buy the whole thing. i found one for about 2k, that way you would get all the mounts cradles, you would have the fire wall with the clutch pedal mounts and brake pedal. if your lucky you would find one with the mountin attached for the shifter it self.

the electrical side of it is the tricky part. if you dont have a type-s it will make it even harder.

can it be done? yes some have (on the accord forums) is it easy and cost effective? No, not unless you can do all the work your self.

Front clip from what? The mysterious TL TypeS 6-speed that was never produced?

i have looked into doing this project and came to the conclusion that it would cost way too much (ie 10g)... you need a lot of parts and modifications.

PS: you should use the search function....

It's pretty easy actually takes about 3 steps:

1) drive to closest acura delaer

2) trade in current auto for 05 Tl Six Speed

3) Brake Late. Shift Hard.

I've seen some of the other threads on this topic and they all say that the electrical is the hard part. Can someone explain that in a little more detail. I thought that the TL and CL shared a good deal of parts when it came to the electrical system.

the way i see it, even if it costs twice as much as getting the stock tranny, its a bargain. And ill be damned if i go drop 30g's on an '05 TL 6spd when i can go get a used 540 sport 6spd and enjoy it a lot more for the same price...

Ok, next time im at Acura ill borrow the CLS 6spd book adn the TL book from the locker. Maby we can look at the exploded diagrams and get a better understanding???

I know of a guy that did this in his accord, and he did not drop $5000 or $7000 to get it done so theres gotta be a way kiddies!!!
