Continuing Struggles... Brake Hose & MC
Continuing Struggles... Brake Hose & MC
So in another saga of Brandon has the shittiest luck This morning something managed to bounce up into my front drivers side wheelwell sever the brake flex hose and leave a nice dent in the splashguard. The car did stop with the pedal all the way to the floor but bled all the brake fluid out rather quickly. I limped it work where it is currently parked. I plan to replace the line from the MC to the caliber since somewhere along the life of the car someone stripped the nut connecting the steel line to the flex hose my flare wrench cannot get a grip. I dont want to cut or use pliers to leverage it off I want to replace it all and be done. Im wondering if I should replace the MC at the same time. I had to make one harsh stop when someone cut me off but besides that i mostly coasted to about 10mph and then used brakes but of course this was with probably no brake fluid in the MC. So thoughts did I probably damage my MC or would this not affect it?
edit: i have been reading other threads and thats why i bring this up other threads mention if the pedal travels too far you should replace the MC but is this when you don't have a clear diagnosis like severed brake line spewing fluid everywhere or because if it travels that far it does something to the MC.

No need to replace MC. You should hold off on writing the MC off until you go to bleed the brakes. Whether the brakes hold pressure or not will tell you if the MC needs to be replace or not.
The brake pedal hitting the floor once or twice has nothing to do with MC condition. The MC's ability to produce and maintain brake pedal pressure is what determines whether or not the MC is defective. Not the brake pedal going to the floor once.
Ie... When you bleed the brakes the brake pedal will bottom out or hit the floor many times until pressure is adequate to keep it from doing that. So hitting the floor or bottoming out is not unusual. Actually, it's expected at the start of the bleeding process.

When I did my brakes I accidentally allowed the MC to run dry. Just fill it up and bleed the brakes (all 4), you'll be fine. You'll run through a fair amount of fluid during the bleeding process so plan ahead. Also the bleeding process needs to start at passenger front, clockwise finishing at driver front.
After bleeding them you'll need to find a dirt/gravel road where you can slam the brakes and engage the ABS because some air can get into the ABS module. That will also affect your TCS so be sure to bleed them again after the ABS can be cycled through.
I bought a gravity bleeder for my job but I think the money would've been better spent with a less basic bleeding kit.

Appreciate the responses guys. Im going to be heading to a yard to pull a brake line today. I was deciding between making my own or just getting a premade one. Hopefully it all goes easy from tracing the line looks like it might be a pain. But since ive been forced to sleep on the couch lately not like it matters if working on the car a little more right lol?

1 Front Left
2 Front Right
3 Rear Right
4 Rear Left
So ran the new hose and bled the brakes. still feel a little firm for my liking so i may bleed again. no rain near me and im new to the area so not sure where a gravel road is to get the abs to engage. but ill get that firgured out just glad to have brakes again.
