Considering replacing 99 tl engine

Have a 99 TL that I was just informed that the engine(3.2) is shot,(2 cylinders are dead) . I've been told the cost of a new one is $1,800 & with labor $3,500. Trying to find out if that is a fair price. Would appreciate some advice & if their is a way to buy(online, callings dealers, etc) to save some $$. Thanks

You could find an stype engine with decent miles for alot less than 1800. Do some online research.

Labor seems steep. My brother and I swapped in a new prelude engine in his lude back in 2005. Took us a day to get the old one out, then an afternoon to drop the new one in.

I paid 380 for my engine two years ago.

You can find an engine for less than 500 and have it delivered to the shop. Do a little legwork by calling local junkyards or LKQ.

The labor shouldn't be more than 5 hours at a rate of 120~ per hour.

That labor should include installing a new timing belt/ water pump and recharge of the a/c.

Parts are extra but it's good security. We pull TL engines in about 2 hours at my shop.

Stay away from a type-s engine because you will need a new ecu, engine harness, trans and imrc controller.

Just get a nice 99 engine. If you need help then shoot me a pm or text me 347-433-6290
