comptech or Tein SS?
hey guys,
what do you suggest...
A) Comptech springs with new shocks? (any matching pair ideas?)
or
B) Tein SS coil overs with EDFC (computerized raising and lowering of adjustable springs)
WEll yeahh i mean the tein SS is gona be nice - but its also costly... so whats a more affordable matching set of shocks that would go with the comptechs?
or if the TEIN SS is a better deal, anyone know where i can get the whole package- of the coil overs along with the EDFC
thanxx

Ride quality of Comptech w Adjustable shocks will be equal or better than Tien SS.
But the tradeoff is a loss of flexibilty on height and extra cost. You have to decide whether this flexibility is worth paying for. No one can decide for you!

The EDFC doesnt raise or lower your car. You have to get in there with a spanner and manually lower it. The EDFC only adjusts the settings of the shocks, to make the ride feel stiffer or softer.
My vote is for teins...im going to do that this summer too.

btw, I think a guy that goes by blxmjx or something on the A-CL board selled them for 850 shipped.
Any sort of adjustable shock is going to run you at least 400 for the front and back. More if you go with quality and get koni yellows. So if you add 250-275 for new comptech springs, you are looking at at least 650. Might as well blow 200 more and get the teins.
Also, I think EDFC is overrated...how often would you really want to change setting anyways? Practicallity aside...i want EDFC too...haha...

depends on how much u lower ur car. 1.5" or less you dont need one.. between 1.5" and 2", you should prolly get one, 2" or more, you should REALLY get one.

drop doesn't affect performance, stiffness of the shocks does. that's why an infiniti fx45 with a monster wheel gap can still handle much better than a camry
if you want performance, get sway bars

Actually Tein SS is the closest to stock ride because the Springs and the shocks were made to compliment each other. Comptech or any other lowering spring with a quality shock won't be as good as the Teins. If you have the money definitely do your suspension right. Don't mix and match the brands. Coilovers is the way to go.
BTW, my car is lowered about 2 inches or so and I don't need a camber kit.

If you do comptech with shocks, you may possibly need a camber kit also. If you go with Tein and drop too much you probably won't need a camber kit. In that case the price of the two options would be very close, if not equal. I am in the same dilemma as you. I can't pull the trigger either way.

I originally bought Comptech springs for my car ... I never installed them and instead decided to get the Tein SS Coilovers with the EDFC. I love them ... its great to be able to adjust the ride height if I need to (although that always results in needing an alignment) ... and with the EDFC, I can adjust the car's feel to how I want to drive at any given moment. When I'm driving 250 miles on the highway its nice to be able to make the ride softer, since its pretty much all straight roads anyways ... But when I'm driving on back roads its nice to make the ride a little stiffer and improve handling.
Anyways, if money isn't an issue, I say go with the Teins ... its worthwhile and in the long run I think the teins will last longer.

I just got the Comptech's and I wouldnt change a thing. Ride quality if anything has improved IMO. I can feel the road better and cornering has improved while during everyday driving, you cant tell a difference. The drop is also very nice, not too much but just enough to set the car off.
Obviously the Tein SS with EDFC could be better and fun, but not worth the money if you ask me ($$$ is obviously an issue for a guy like me in college).

Zactly. In the context of dropping an extra 1/2 inch, it won't make much difference at the types of speeds that you are going to drive on roads and highways. For a sports car going 180mph, maybe it would be noticeable.
Sway bars and dampening on the other hand will be many magnitudes more noticeable in terms of handling improvement.

Tein SS's. I have them and I love it! I also have the EDFC which I haven't installed yet. If your interested I'll see it to you. I went through the same thing, comptech or tein's. I went with the Tein's because their reputation is really good and I rather spend the money at once and get the hole thing rather then mixing brands or having to change something in the future. On the softest setting, the ride is still significantly stiffer then stock.

Yes. Although it is anecdotal. from what I've read, the softest setting on the Tiens is stiffer than the softest setting on Tokico Illumina's. Some have complained that Tiens on the softest are still too hard - but I'm sure these are camry loving yahoo's.

I have Tokico Illumina. Every time I get in my car I am amazed. I can feel both outside wheels holding the road around turns. It's really a great feeling. The car is enourmously well balanced.

I have had the springs for a few weeks. And no the ride isnt smoother, but I like it more actually. It feels just as smooth unless you are really paying attention to every bump. If you hit a larger bump you can tell its a little stiffer, but like I said I like that feel.
I would sacrifice 20% softness for an 80% improvement in looks any day!

I was just doing some quick math and please someone correct me if I am wrong:
CT Option - $275 + Shocks Front $278 + Shocks Rear $278 + Camber Kit (if needed)$300 = $1131
Tein Option - $925 + Camber Kit (if needed) $300 = $1225
Installation would probably run in the $200-400 range.
I am not sure if I missed anything. That is pretty close, you might as well go for the coilover option.

I wish the TEIN's front spring for the TL would come with a better spring rate. It comes standard w/ 7kgf, which is more for the Accord. Tde TL is heavier. It should come w/ 8kgf or 9kgf, but that's another $300.
