Comptech Supercharger
Hey Guys,
I read online that the Comptech Supercharger kit on a TL give about 30-35 HP while the same kit on the TL-S would give 40-45. Is this true? If so, why would a TL-S get more gains out of the Supercharger than would a TL.
I was under the impression that the intake manifold, compression ratios, and ecu were the only things that made a TL-S "faster." Thanks for the input guys!

The TL-S gains more from the supercharger for the same reason the TL-S gains more from the EXACT SAME set of headers than the Accord or the TL-P gain (all three use the same comptech headers).. It's the same thing that defines the TypeS over the TL-P ...
i don't know all the specs: bigger throttle body, bigger exhaust plenum, some stuff done to the internals of the engine .. etc.
Unfortunately, due to tranny restrictions, the CT supercharger can only net about 40whp (and similar torque .. ) for the autotragic TL-S.. while gaining about 60-70 whp for the CL-S 6-spd .. Comptech is currently working on a way to provide more hp for their auto TypeS's.. (according to Mike B. at comptech).
The beauty of the supercharger is not the PEAK hp .. but the torque that is gained CONSISTENTLY ACROSS THE ENTIRE POWER BAND... imagine having an additional 30lb-ft of torque at every rpm... we all know torque is what makes cars haul ass...

I THINK IT SUCKS THAT A MOTOR CO THAT PRIDES ITSELF ON EFFICENCY AND LOW EMISIONS HASTLY PUT OUT SUCH ON INEFFICENT 5 SPD AUTO JUST TO SAY THEY'VE GOT A 5 SPD AUTO.
INEFFICENT POWER TRANFER CAUSES HEAT,HEAT CAUSES WEAR, WEAR CAUSE FAILURE, AND FAILURE = WIDESPREAD DOUBT ABOUT A CO'S RELIABILITY.
I LOVE MY TL AND THE 7/100K TRANNY WARR. BUT EVERYTIME I TELL MY BUDDIES ABOUT MY NEW "HONDA" THEY'RE LIKE "YA BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TRANNY"
AND COMP-TECH S/C = WASTE OF $ ON AUTOS

The Comptech S/C puts out fairly modest numbers on the auto (35-40whp), however, they are working on a piggyback ECU which is rumored to add about another 20hp.
Personally I'd wait and hope another company releases an S/C b/c the gains on the auto S/C are not worth the money in my eyes.....

I've just finished changing the boost pulley on my 03 TL-S that takes the Stock kit from 4.5 psi to 6-6.5 psi. It runs strong and smooth right up to the redline. The AFR is 10.5:1 as soon as you're in boost. That is a bit rich, but there is no spark knock, and of course the timing advance is still stock. Our premium gas is 93 octane which helps. If I told you that I picked up 60 hp from stock, and it's still pulling hard at the red line, would it be worth it then? Try to compare the ENTIRE AREA UNDER THE CURVE gains per dollar of the SC, to your other mods ENTIRE AREA UNDER THE CURVE gains per dollar, and the SC will come out ahead!
If you have the old tranny I might worry. It's too soon to tell on the 03 build dates, but I will tell you, after 12k miles, 3k with the blower, my fluid is still clean and red, and running strong.
BTW, the day after i installed the SC I pulled 30.1 mpg on the next full tank.

Look at the GTP .. runs 280lb-ft stock thanx to the supercharger.. no one's complaining of that S/C & FWD relatioship .. seems to work real well.. the advantage we have is that we have a nice 5-spd that we can regulated w/ the SS so we can moderate the power that comes on by throttle AND gear selection..
