Comptech spring went bye bye today

I noticed my rear passenger side comptech springs snapped today. I'm not sure how long I've been driving in this condition. I've notice rust on them a few months back and bought tein ss for replacements. I want to take it in to the dealer and have them install the teins. I know its not safe but...you think I can drive around like this? For at least week?

History: 2002 TL-S with 47000 miles. Springs installed somewhere between 5K-10K in summer 2003 by dealer.

Thanks.

I wouldn't if I were you. Think about it, there is nothing back there to support the weight of the car now. The strut will just keep bottoming out and with the extra harsh ride, all the banging may damage other components such as the control arms, tie rods, etc. I say put on the Tein SS as soon as you can.

very wierd!! what do you mean by the spring snapped...because if its broken you should NOT drive anywhere because the shock is not for holding the weight of the car, that's the spring's job! but if its cracked you can get away to driving to the dealer...just might

stop if you hear a loud clunk under the rear seat...

I'd see if comptech will replace the springs... they're out of warranty yes, but snapping is pretty extream... they might just replace the set without question, then you're up a new set of springs to get rid of in the black market...

Comptech had an issue with rusting and if i remember correctly, a few members here had a problem with rusting and comptech replaced it. Comptech is aware of the problem so its nothing new. The new set of comptechs are powder coated (or so I read on this board) to protect against rusting.

Wish I had the skills to do this myself..but I don't nor the equipment. My local dealer prob will not install the teins for me being that they are anal about aftermarket parts. I plan on going back to ParkAveAcura. They installed my original springs. Problem is they're like 70 miles or so from me. Think I may need to find a local installer. Thanks for the input guys.

As for Comptech quality, this will be the last product I purchase from them. I'm very disappointed. Searching through the threads there are a few members that experience this same problem...not only with springs but also with rusted sway bars. I'm going to double check all my comptech parts intake, sways, headers, and exhaust.

I called up ParkAveAcura today and they said they no longer install comptech "stuff" and that the guy who use to do it no longer works there. They did offer to swap out my cracked springs with either the stock springs or another set of comptechs but I'd have to pay for the swap. They refuse to put on my teins. So it looks like I'll be looking around at some local performance shops.

Looking at my other comptech stuff, my sways are a bit rusty. My exhaust has a bit of rust on them too. Not meaning to cause panic or anything..seems this is all old news to everyone.

For those that have these springs if u even notice a bit of rust on them take care of it ASAP. Mine only had minor rust at the bottom of the springs and it still cracked.

Wow, I didn't Jens doesn't work at Park Ave anymore. He's the guy that does all the installs for aftermarket stuff. i'd just go to a auto place. They'll probably do it a lot cheaper.

Ya, I had a problem with my Comptech springs a while back and they replaced them and re-imbursed me for the install as well (minux tax).

I have my new ones on as well as my comptech sway bars, but i think driving around for a while on bad springs blew out my shocks....grrr.

Road salt ate cars, another member has CT rear sway snapped in half. Not to scare you but this is the price to pay to live in places where salt is used in winters.

ya that could be why mine are still fine (really never any road salt around here) - but I still need to replace them because this will be my ride for years to come

shouldnt have any thing to do with it. my stock ones still look good, they arent rusted and i live in the salt belt (they dont believe in plowing, just dumping salt) Comptech used a bad material for their springs and didnt coat them good enough. Ive never had a problem with H&R in the salt

ou sig, here's mine:

They are not too bad...so I thought. Take care of yours.

Salt prob isn't the main cause of it. But with the bad material I bet it helps speeds up the corrosion.

This pic was taken when I first noticed the rust. I haven't taken any pics of when it broke. This pic was not taken too long ago..I would say 2 months back in the summer.

Thanks for fixing my pic

why do you say your stock struts are "shot"? Mine have 93k miles on them and they are fine - last 20k are with the Comptech springs also.

well i know mine have been going south for the last 25k or so slowly. i can tell the way it goes over dips in the road and stuff. im not lowered but he is. that many miles on stock shocks and lowered would tend to wear out sooner

fsttyms1, That's for sure.

ou sig, get it checked out. They're going.

ArN 2000 TL, sweet. definately keep us updated.

I've contacted both Comptech and ParkAve and hope to be working out a deal. I'll let you know what happens.

Even though I'm disappointed at the quality of my springs...I'm very impressed to see Comptech stepping up to the plate.
