Comptech Icebox- Minor Irritations

Maybe my install was a little quirky, but a couple of things were irritating-

1) The battery tie down just flat interfered with the filter cover no matter how I moved the bracket and box around before screwing it down. Anybody have a suggestion for a fix? It's scraping even after filing it down

2) The third cover screw at the front of the car is amazingly difficult to put in and take out, and does not line up very well with the lower bushing. Anybody else think this detail is poor design? (this screw dropped into the lower section, and has not been seen since).

3) The filter looked cheap- I'm definitely swapping to the K&N RU-2590.

The good thing is that it does work great, and sounds really good.

that is a really common problem on most cars that comptech makes their icebox for, kinda a small price to pay for a decent mod.

if you think that is bad, you should have seen what a buddy had to do with his s2000 to get the icebox on their....completely disassembling 75% of the engine bay...what a joke that they call that mod a bolt on

Yeah 1+2 are pretty common. But removing the battery tie down isn't that difficult, and putting the 3rd cover screw just requires some patience and tweaking.

In my opinion, a small price to pay for a great Mod.

Oh, by the way, my current car is a 2003 TL-S AM with minor mods. Need to swap the picture soon!

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK.

Yeah, i experienced the same problems as you did. I ended up removing parts of the battery tie-down, and didn't bother with the 3rd screw! Really annoying that they couldn't get this right, especially given how expensive CT stuff is.

I bought a 5M X 40mm bolt and got it to work. When I put it the K&N filter in about a week, I'll try to grind down the holder a little more.

I work in Automotive components for OEMs, and if my products fit llike that, I'd be fired. IF it were a $100.00 kit, I could be more forgiving, but I paid $265.00 on Ebay. I can install a UR underdrive pulley for that.

I built my intake on my old CL for $30.00 plus a K&N filter, and I'm starting to wish I had done the same here.

The car runs so much better than before. I think resetting the computer was a help also.

I wrote Comptech, and maybe they'll respond.

I have a '99 with an Icebox and didn't have any of these problems. The front screw was a little hard to start, but other than that, no problems. I also had decided before I bought the Icebox that I was going to go with a K and N.
