comptech headers or exhaust
comptech headers or exhaust
which one should i get first? how much should they cost ( i know the prices on this site but i want to get them from dealer for warranty reasons) what should they be charging for parts and labor? and which should i get first? will the headers give me a deep sound like the exhaust ?
thanks
thanks
I don't have either, but... why would you have the dealer install them for warranty purposes? Shouldn't matter. Many people on here have installed the headers themselves. Headers give you more hp (both headers and exhaust give the hp at very high rpm). Noise, headers add some at high rpm, and exhaust adds some at all levels (some say that it is so annoying at a constant 70 mph that they cruise at 80 to drown out the noise. Matters what you want. I would get the headers, and install them myself, ~$1,000?
I would definately get the headers first. You will get a lot more hp/per $$ from the headers than the exhaust. You can expect somewhere between 10-25 hp gain from the headers...while the exhaust (mufflers actually) probably won't give you anymore than 5
You'd be looking at about $1,000 - $1,100 for the headers, ~$600 for the exhaust (plus install if you have a shop do it). Like accordv6 said, the mufflers don't give you much HP... about 3-5hp MAX. The headers on the other hand will give you 28-32HP peak to the wheels. Comptech claims 32hp to the wheels, but the dynos that I've seen show the range that I listed. Keep in mind that at normal RPMs you'll probably only see 12-17whp. The peak HP numbers come in over 4800rpm.
I'd go with the headers first too. I mean, I only went with the exhaust first b/c I got a killer deal on them, but if I was going to be paying regular price, I'd save the extra $$ and get the headers first, exhaust second.
As for sound, adding headers alone won't give you too much of a different sound. You'll get a little more growl when you hit VTEC, but it won't sound anything at all like the exhaust note. There's only one way to get that deep sound, and that's by buying the exhausts.
Regarding pricing... the prices on this site are pretty much what you'll find anywhere. Tim is cheaper then most places, but you really shouldn't see too much of a difference around. If the dealer is charging more then $75 on any part.. it's a ripoff. Comptech pretty much sets their prices, so no matter where you go, pricing should be similar. The only thing you'll have a say on is installation pricing. Getting the install done at a dealer will cost you more then going to a shop.... possibly double. Here is a local dealer in the NY/NJ area and the pricing they have.... if your dealer is anything too different they're ripping you off: http://www.parkaveacura.com/comptech...t.htm#Comptech
Good luck!!
