Comptech exhaust : is it worth it?
Hey guys, I'm thinking in getting the exhaust system for my TL-S.
How many HP will I get and also will it be loud?
Do the quiet tip inserts hurt power?....anyone...please help

as far as hp goes very minimal, as far as soun nice but too quiet. you can remove one of your exhaust resonators and make it louder if you want (what i did) and then use the quiet tip inserts to make it quieter when you want it to be. as far as the inserts hurting hp? i have not been able to tell a difference at all. i personally would stick the money into the obx header first. alot more hp gain with that and cheaper
like fstty said...very minial gain.
For noise...i experience droning...some ppl like it, some ppl don't. Personally, it gave me an headache for the first several days of driving...so i bought the quiet tips. After about a week, you get use to the droning and the headache goes away. I use my quite tips sometimes, i put them on and take them off often.
For me, the quite tips made the noise back to stock...which is "no" noise, some ppl agree with me, and some ppl disagree, saying that you still hear it. But i don't
Also for noise, the droning occurs around 2000-3000 RPM if i remember correctly.....this is usually crusing speed, so when you're on the freeway doing 70 MPH, you constantly hear it.
CT exhaust is something you don't want to get if you don't want to wake-up the neighborhood at 3 am. I'm usually a night person and i get some jack-in-the box around 2-3 am...and the pitch is low enough to disturb the neighbors at night...and you might set off some sensitive car alarms.

Personally, I think the Comptech Exhaust is nice. It's a love it or hate it deal.
It's good cause it looks factory since it's small. Has a sweet deep tone, and not that loud. Plus you got the option of the quiet tips. The downside, the price.
Did you know the Comptech muffler's are basically half the size of the OEM Mufflers?
As for HP gains, very minimal. 1-2 HP. You do got to keep in mind this is only axle-back.

With the lack of features you get (other than added noise) I personally would never buy an aftermarket exhaust if I had to do it all over again. I personally have the Thermal R&D, they are pretty much like the Comptech except that the tips are oval, so the "drooning" noise most people talk about the Comptech exist for the THermal R&D too. Use that money for some custom tips and call it a day.
P.S.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm all for increasing HP...so if it increased it by at least 10-15 or so, then who cares about noise! But with the current HP/$$$ ratio of most aftermarket axlebacks? Forgetaboutit.
