Cold Weather - Brakes

A couple of times when it has been extremely cold, I have noticed that when I first start the car in the morning and get going that the first time i try to stop i really need to jam the brake pedal down to get the car to stop. After that, everything is fine. Has anyone else noticed this in the cold weather? Is this normal or is there a potential problem? Any thoughts?

That partially explains it. Another reason is the brake fluid in the lines. When your car has been sitting overnight in cold weather, the brake fluid is not up to its operating temperature. It could temporarily clog the brake lines, which requires you to press the pedal really hard, increasing pressure thus clearing up the lines. Just give it a firm push once or twice before you start driving and you'll be fine.

Oh, yeah. Make sure of the obvious things, like the fluid level, and if there's any leaks.
