Coin holder stuck. Help!

My coin holder got stuck from being jammed with too much change. Don't get excited, it was mostly pennies.

Anyway, I managed to unjam it by pulling down hard. I then removed all the coins. However, he tray still has a lot of friction and resistance when pulling down, and makes a rough grinding noise. Surprisingly, when I push it back up, the action is smooth, no noise. I can't figure out where the remaining coins could be stuck, if that is indeed what is happening. Anybody have to deal with this in the past and, if so, what was your fix? Thanks!

Pull the dash apart and bring your money eyes because you've probably got about 20 bucks in change in there.

id pull the console apart as well and get any leftover and stuck change in there out as well. You would be amazed as to how much falls out. (just look at the pics in my 6 speed swap thread)

I was surprised how much change was under the coin holder in my TL. The design of that compartment could be better.

With everyone else. The dash is fairly easy to take apart and that's really the only way to get what is stuck back there.

Oh, *that*!!. I've got that. Thanks.

I don't think it's ever held a coin in it's life though. I think that's where we keep the valet key. That's about it. Probably full of dust since we never use it.

I love how the TL doubles as a piggy bank and traps money inside the dash. Maybe I'll check mine out in a few months, maybe I'll have enough change for a new mod

OK, so no easy way to remove the coin holder, save taking apart the center console? I think I'll wait until I have to do that, like to install an iPod adapter. Thanks for the info.

Yea you can't really get it out without starting to get the whole dash apart. You have to take off the two wood grain strips around the center console then remove a few screws, take up the armrest part, then the cup holders and around shifter. I agree you should wait til a more involved project unless you really need the money .

hey guys.
my wife just got her 03 tl about 3 weeks ago.
I can't find a coin holder in the car.
And I don't see where one would go.
Do we have a coin holder on 03 TL-P w/o navigation?

Yesterday I was jimmying the coint holder, mobing it uo and down, in an attempt to dislodge the coins. Suddenly, the coinholder stopped making the crunching noise, and the up and down action became smooth again. However, the coinholder won't close all the way! It will go up until there is about an inch gap between the coinholder and the dash, and just stay there. I guess I will have to fix it now.

Can anybody point me to step by step instructions on how to remove the console? Thanks!

Here you go:

http://www.skyeflye.com/acura_cls/In...01-2003_CL.pdf

It's written for an Acura CL but the steps are identical for a TL.

I think thats a good design, it traps money in there slowly that you would spend on stupid shit anyways and then the tranny fails and you take everything apart and your money is waiting there for you to pay for your tranny. AMAZING haha haha

Wow. That is way too complicated a job just to fix a stuck coinholder. There has to be a simpler way to do it that we just don't know about--there is an ashtray available as a dealer installed option, and I bet the installation instrux are available online somewhere.

I think I'll have the dealer fix it when I bring it in later this month for the 30,000 mile maintenance.
