Coilover & Spring Question

OK guys excuse my lack of knowlege here but I thought that springs lower your stance while shocks and/or struts make the ride softer or more harsh. That being said, If I get 18 inch Axis 7 mods in black with polished lip and put on the Tein SS coilovers why would I have a rubbing issue? The the springs on the coilovers should drop it what?? 1.5 inches or so? That's not slammed. Also if I adjust the coilovers the ride height shouldn't change only the damping right? Again please excuse me and my ignorance ahead of time. Thanks

The springs themselves on the Tein SS Coilovers (or any coilover for that matter) do not lower the car. Coilovers alter vehicle height by adjusting the spring perch. By moving the spring mounting position up or down, you change the amount of your drop.

I don't know what the range is on the Tein coilovers. An example would be -1" to -4" (ie. you can alter height from 1" drop to 4" drop or anywhere inbetween).

ok then how do you adjust the ride quality? I thought the settings were for the ride quality not spring perch.

Theres a knob to adjust the damping factor of the shock. It basically adjusts a valve inside the piston which affects how fast the oil flows w/in the shock. The faster the oil flows, the less damping and the shock is "softer" (and vice versa).

[edit] - not all coilover systems feature adjustable damping btw.

If you have the right tire size and offset on your rims, you shouldnt have an issue with lowering.
