Question Coilover Dampers

Has anyone had any experince with coilover dampers on their TL? I just got some 18" and they make my 2003 TL look raised so i want to drop it about an 1.5 inches.I would just like feedback on any TL owners experince with coilovers.Thank you.

Coilover dqampers? Like Teins? What are you looking for exactly? Coilovers that have adjustable shocks, or just plain coilovers?

If you are only looking for a 1.5 inch drop why go with coilovers? Just get the Comptech springs which are alot cheaper than coilovers. But as for coilovers I have teins on one car and ground controls in teh other and the teins are 10 times better and ride great. The GC's are cheaper and even with the tokico shocks the ride is really harsh when compared with the teins.

I think that coilover dampers are the best drop you can do for your TL.I am planning on buying either a set of apex n1 or tein ss coilover dampers to lower my car but no one I know has them one their cars

I have friends who have the Apex N1 and I have other friends who have the Tein SS including myself. Both are great. The Apex N1 can go lower wihtout bottoming out as much as the Tein, but the Teins have a US division that can repair your shocks if something happens.

Do you really need this little gadget on your console?Does it help you out that much?I just want to drop it 2 inches and still get a smooth ride.

If you are referring to the EDFC, no you do not need it, but later you will find yourself wanting it. Keep this in mind, to adjust the damper in the rear, you have to remove your rear seats to get to it. That is very time consuming and asking for rattles. I have a 2 something inch drop on stock 17s with the damper set to 8 which is half way stiff and I love it. You might want to set it to the lowest setting of 16 for the smoother ride.

Sways and struts bars will most definitely help. I am planning on getting the Comptech Sway bars and the Cusco upper strut bar soon along with installing my lower Cusco bar...imagine how stiff my suspension will be. With just the Teins alone, it's like a 30% difference between stock, if not more. Also what would help immensely is good gripping tires such as SO-3s or even better, the t1-s.

So overall coilover dampers are the best way too go suspension wise on a TL, if you can afford it. Am I correct?

Depends on the situation and what you want. The coilover system is best for roads that are perfect. Regular spring and shocks are better for roads that are badly broken up. Personally I like to be able to adjust my gap when I get rims so I went with coilovers.

I have 18" rims so I also want coilovers to reduce the wheel gap.Anyone who gets rims for their TL should be prepared for a drop. The wheel gap alomst doubles when you get bigger rims.Looks kinda ugly.

It's because you get a smaller profile that's why. Stock 17inch is like a 50 profile tire, but then you get 18s and it's usually like a 40 profile or lower.
