Unhappy Clunking noise with Tein SS.

Anyone have this problem?...I installed my Teins a couple of months ago and noticed a slight clunking noise in the rear of the car. I have a 2003 TLS. I think it is the slightly smaller diameter springs not seating properly in the OEM upper mounts. The front might be clunking as well, but I can't tell. I notice the rear shocks more now since I'm presently ripping out the Bose crap and installing all aftermarket equipment. The back seat and all of the interior (trunk, cabin) is removed for dynamat. Now the clunking is really killing me. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Take it back to the place that installed the Teins and have them take a look. Otherwise, go to the Acura dealer and get a "checkup".

After installing my Teins, I had 2 motor mounts go on me... Been fine since.. (knock on wood)

Cheers!

Jay.K,
unfortunately, I installed them and there is no warranty on that! I'm pretty confident it is the upper mount. However, I'm still looking for someone to drive me around while I crawl in the trunk. Since the trunk is still torn-up for the stereo install, it is a good time for me to really investigate this problem.

Thanks for your input.

Andytran,

I figure as I was adjusting the Teins lower and lower, the ride may have been a bit to harsh, and the dampening was too tight (I was running "0" for a while), and maybe the motor mounts were getting weak and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.... <shrug>

Otherwise, maybe the motor mounts were ready to go on their own and would have anyway.

Cheers!

Jay

Check the 14mm bolts that hold the upper mount to the body. They tend to work themselves loose after a while.

If I had to guess, he might have meant pillow mounts.

Something probably just came loose. It's easy to check. Jack up the car, make sure the suspension bolt at the bottom of the strut assembly is in there tight (by the way, this is the only thing holding your strut assembly and control arms together... if this thing goes, that corner of the car will just fall on the ground)

Also check the 3 bolts at the top of the strut assembly. This isn't as easy, though. You have to remove the back part of the seat, flip up the rear dash board and reach in. If you want to do this but don't know how, then let me know. I will tell you how to do it.

I'm betting that most likely something came loose. I did my springs myself and made sure everything was lock tight. I don't have any clunking noises on my car.

We had the same problem with my buddy's TLS. But it was the endlink that was loose when we took the stock parts out. Is the clunk noise after or right when you hit the bump?

MotionEffects,

The clunk actually happens when I'm driving really slow, like through a parking lot. However, it is more pronounced when I hit choppy bumps at slow speed. I've never heard it on the hiway or any speed above 30 or so. The stangest thing happened when I had the trunk interior out and I put a 20 lb bag on top of the spare tire, the sound was more frequent and pronounced. Suspension or something else??? Could be both! This weekend for sure, I'm going to get to the bottom of it. Even if I have to crawl in the trunk and have someone drive me around. The shame is, I'm ready to put the trunk back together after my stereo system install and this clunk is delaying that.

Thats a common problem with endlinks that are taken off and re-attach, when putting the shocks back.
