Question Clear signal bulbs?

I put polarg hyper whites in my rear signals (looks awesome), but that bulb has blue glass (can't see bulbs in the tails, just light). For my front signals, I want the same bright white light, but with a clear bulb. With cleared lights, a colored bulb really stands out and (I believe) would take away from the clean effect. Are there clear signals other than the basic PEP Boys version (cheap sylvanias). Also put some PIAAs in the fogs and they were as yellow as the stocks. May need to wait til I find the Silver Stars. Any suggestions on signals and fogs will be much appreciated.

The Silverstars are a great replacement for the fogs. Don't know about the signals though.

you can check out the Silverstars on my hopepage if you'd like:

I paid like $26 each at Advance Auto Parts here in Cleveland. I know a lot of people on the West coast said they were having trouble locating them though.

According to Sylvania, Advance Auto Parts and Auto Zone are the only 2 stores carrying the bulbs right now. There aren't any Advance Auto Parts stores on the west coast, so I'd check with Auto Zone. Here's a link to their store locator:

Let me know how you like them. I like them, but I've never tried anything else, so I don't have anything to compare them to (except for the stock bulbs).

You said you tried PIAA and did not like them...which ones (Super Whites, Xtreme Whites, Plasma, etc.) did you have?

I'm not sure which models, one was $40 a pair and real yellow (like the stocks), and one was $90 a pair and too blue.

Piaa Bulbs

I just purchased some PIAA Platinum Super White bulbs for my high beam and my fog lights. Does this mean that they are going to be yellow like the stock ones also?. I read that PIAA super white bulbs were very close to HID's in color.

there are different models, so your's might match better than the ones I tried. but the pics jkozlo3 had with the silver stars was such a close match, that that's the way I'm going. good luck.

The PIAA Platinum bulbs are marginally closer to HID than an OEM bulb, but still a far cry. The PIAA Xtreme bulbs are closer yet. I'm speculating that the closest halogen bulb is the PIAA Plasma, but haven't seen a comparison in person.

anyone know how to avoid getting moisture in the headlights when clearing corner lights?

ive heard horror stories about people who try to clear their corner lights to later find moisture in the lights.

I had my lights cleared for $100 at Generation 1 in Anaheim a month ago, with no evidence of moisture (they warranty just in case).

I'm very curious how they turned out!!! do you have any pics at all? also how happy are U with the outcome? only $100 is good for that and I'll go there if U recommend it, I just didn't want any probs with the mod cuz of the price to replace the bulbs and all. also just 2 add I have the RAZO fogs and they look perfect w/ the front headlights! your info would be really appreciated!

BFOR3, I was really happy with Generation 1 (in Anaheim), and I just love the way the headlights look after clearing (you can find pics by searching the site). They warranty the work, but I haven't seen a drop of moisture. I put the sylvania silverstars in the fogs, and they're close (not what I had hoped for). What did you pay for your Razos, and which model did you use, cost? Asiankidd, in California, it is legal to not have yellow signals, illegal to have other than yellow or white. I'm still searching for clear, bright corners and signals for the front...

TLunatic-S,

You don't like the SilverStars? I thought they were a pretty close match (although not perfect). The Razo Premium Whites (not the zeros) are supposed to be a real close match according to 2k2 TLS from his previous post. The Razo zeros would probably be TOO blue since their color temp is 4550.

If you end up trying the Razo Premium Whites, I'd love to know how they compare to the SilverStars!!

Here's the post I was referring to:

Thumbs up

I just installed some SilverStars in my wife's car tonight.. they make a real difference in the appearence and how much light can be seen. There is only a slight blue tinge, but mainly it's white and bright.. not nearly as bright as our HIDs but the color is just a bit off from when the HIDs are warmed up.. I think it is much better than stock..

for $50/pair, that isn't bad..

to get a good compairison, view them after the HIDs have warmed up and no longer have the blue color.. otherwise, the silverStars will be yellow..

Found them at Autozone too.. I think the west coast stores just go them in last week according to the guy I spoke with there..

I got my headlights cleared at Generation 1 also. I unfortunately, did have moisture in one lamp and took it back for them to fix it. It works fine now. And the guy there is pretty friendly. I'm using the Polarg M-12 bulbs for the front turn signals, nice and white but still not white enough compared to the HID.

I was at Autozone last week and noticed that the SilverStar bulbs just came in. Boy I was really tempted to try those out, but decided that I didn't have the money to spare at the moment. I'll stick with my too blue Cuzo high beams right now.

Becarefull because I was under the impression that the rear could only emit yellow or red unless you are backing up. white lights pretty much means you are moving in that direction. I wanted hyperwhites for my clear turn signals too, but found out that is a potential ticket waiting to happen if a cop is behind you. You could have the lens any color you want, but the light it emits either has to be yellow or red. If I am wrong, then correct me, cuz then it'd be getting the hyperwhites for turn signals too.

Just an addendum to the list: the door courtesy bulbs, the trunk bulb, and the map light bulbs are 168, which is also known as 194. The backup bulb is a 921, not 7440 like many lighting guides falsely list it under (this bulb has a 168 base but a 7440 head).

To answer your question about M-12 polarg bulbs, all hyperwhite polarg bulbs have a slight blue tint coating to the glass but illuminate white.

Question

Just for clarification(at least for me) the Reverse Lights - Type 168/921 listed on this site for the 2001 TL will work on the TLS?

Thanks, bebber, are the Courtesy/Map/Trunk bulb a 168 or 158?

Also, the backup lights are 912, I think, not 921. But I could be mistaken!

168 bulb

I'm pretty sure it's 921, I have my old bulbs in front of me and they say 921 on them. I have a 2001 TL, but I'm sure that it's the same bulb for the 2002 Type-S.
