Question Cleaning Exhaust Tips

Hi all -

I still have the stock exhaust, and the tips are quite black where the moisture comes out the bottom of the tips.

Normal soap/water just gets the dust off, but the bottom is still really dark. I have seen this on nearly every car I have ever looked at.

Any ideas how to clean it so they look new?

Thanks!

You can try using stainless steel polish, should help take off the crap.

I've been using Flitz or Simichrome for years. They both work about the same, just depends on which one I happen to find in my toolbox first.

i use an orange cleaner for the rims and my exhaust, then I follow up with a rim cleaner. It does a great job with getting the brake dust off and that black crap on the exhaust.

It does both, a cleaner and a polish. Try it you`ll like it, just a pinch between your check and gum!

Mine were absolutely horrible. I don't clean them often, so the stuff is caked on. I tried carb cleaner, engine cleaner, and nothing got the caked on carbon off.

Until - I used a non-lye based oven cleaner (the no fumes type)! Sprayed that on, let it soak an hour or so, and threw 'em in the dishwasher. They came out looking new.

I use "Bar Keeper's Friend" and it works wonderfully. Mine were pretty much grey and they look as good as new

Noxon works well for me. It's a metal polish you can find at hardware stores or even supermarkets (where I got mine)

x2^.
But use a 0000 steel wool pad and some degreaser of your choice. Then hit it with some metal polish like Nevr Dull and they look new.

Supposedly you can get it at Walmart. I chose to just order it off Amazon.com and I saved a few bucks actually.

err, i have another question now.
the bolt that's below the stock exhaust tip, that holds it on... i tried to remove it but it's so rusted on there that it started to bend the metal piece it's screwed through (can post a pic if needed). any suggestions on how to loosen that rusted screw up so i can remove the tip easier?

Aply some rust buster (or equivalent product) to the bolt. Let it sit for 4+ hours then try again.

For the screw removal, use kroil & let it soak. It's the best!
