clanking and tinging noise when engine is off

Hi,

I've only had my 2000 TL for under 6 months. Whenever I turn the engine off and get out of the car, I hear an occasional clanking and tinging noise for about 5-10 min. It doesnt seem to be an issue regarding gas grade. Ive tried varying that and the noises still occur. I'm wondering if it could be a timing problem or something of that nature ? or is this just normal ?

Thanks

The noise is probably the metal heat shields around the exhaust manifolds - as the metal cools, it changes shape and makes the noises you describe. Totally normal.

Yup, like WestCoastTLS said ... those noises happen as the car cools down. Virtually all cars make that same kindof noise.

Yes, it does happen normally 'coz the engine cools down. Now that third reply should make you feel better. Don't worry about it....
