CL-S vs. Crossfire?
I just read about the supercharged '04 Chrysler Crossfire in the new issue of Motor Trend, and right now, if I were in the market for a sports car under $35,000, I would preorder the Crossfire as soon as possible. I know '04 seems really far away, but I can't shake off the feeling that this car will completely crush any opposition in its part of the market, especially with its $27,000 projected price-tag. If the Crossfire really does come out at $27,000, I don't think I could help but buy it. Some key points are:
-Est. 275 HP @ 6000
-Torque: Est. 270 @ 4000
-5 Speed Manual (A whole other issue)
-5.8 seconds 0-60
-13.9 1/4 Mile
-Probably the nicest interior I've ever seen
-An old school starter button!!!
-A really unique performance monitor
I would love to hear the opinions of all of the people who have read this car, because until this morning, I was planning to buy the '04 3.2 Tl-S.
P.S. Why am I planning so far ahead? I just got a new Explorer, so I can't buy a car now. I will have to sell the Explo this fall, because I'm going to college in Boston, where, due to the lack of space, I wouldn't be able to have a car my freshman year. That means that I won't be able to have a car for about a year and a half, about midway through the '03 model year. And what's the point in buying a new car halfway through a model year (before savings kick in, after the new cars are really new)? So I'm definately buying a new car in '03-'04.

I think it looks pretty good too. Maybe not exactly what I am looking for style-wise, but nice none the less. However, I will never buy another coupe unless I win the lottery (I have a son, and drive clients around all the time). Four doors are in my future forever. However, if looking for a coupe, I would consider it.

Hmm. About the "It's a Chrysler" thing. Yeah, but I wouldn't keep it past the warrantee expiration. I'm thinking maybe a 36 month lease. So long-term reliability isn't much of an issue. And the PT Cruiser won MT Car of the Year, so it can't be THAT mechanically wretched (even though I'd shoot myself in the foot if I had to drive around a 4 cylinder grandma wagon like the cruiser). Plus, Chrysler has really progressed since the days of the 1987 Lebaron. It's not like any Chryslers still have foam dashboards and seperate buttons for the "Defrost On" and the "Defrost Off" funtions (LOL). The Crossfire really seems like it's going to perform well, and although the taste is kinda subjective, you can't at least deny that it will make heads turn (in a good way, not in a Civic EX with 3 spoilers way), although this whole automotive uniqueness thing is starting to get tired.

I had the same "WOW" reaction when I saw the first photos of the Crossfire. It looks HOT! If it stickers at $27k +/-, I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of them at the end of 2003...
...of course, where we'll be seeing them is parked in the service bays at Chrysler dealerships. As said so well above, after all, it is a Chrysler. (Having a warranty doesn't mean that it won't break down--just means that you won't have to pay for the repairs.)

I dunno, I still like it. We'll have to see, I guess. If the '05 TL-S looks even better, then I'll probably lease a cheaper car (maybe the tortoise of a car, the G20) for 12 months, then get the TL-S. Whatever the case is, it's not for at least 2 years, and I'm sure things will change in this span. (After all, I was drooling over the new Celica 2 years ago, now I wouldn't touch it)

If you are really interested in domestic
cars. There are the 5.0 Mustangs and the
5.7 Firebirds, which are also fast in the
straight line.

Not a Blowhole
The TL is a domestic car.
Chrysler power has been exagerrated - look at the power to weight of the 300M, and yet it's performance is way off of the TL's.
Remeber how cool the show car of the TL was, and look what we got. Pluds, Daimler is ruining Chrysler, and the creative talent that built the admittedly nice looking cars is mostly gone.
I guess we will see.
BTW, I commend your futurism.

NO guarantee that the Crossfire will ever see the light of day in production. With more oversight from Mercedes, Chrysler has less free reign on its production models. If Mercedes does give a thumbs up, there are likely to be a number of changes before it reaches the dealerships. I wouldn't start saving my milk money for it at this point in its embryonic life.
