Is the Honda fluid really different than other major brands? I know with the trannie issues, it is best to go by the book, but doesn't it say something like 120k miles for the first change?

Transmission fluid has sort of a built-in guage for when it needs to be changed.
The colors wil go from (new to old) red-pink-clear-tan-light brown-brown-black.
If your car's fluid is at the light-brown stage at only 8k miles then I can only think it's done a lot of heavy accelerating from a dead stop or some of the clutches are slipping, etc....As fsttyms1 asked, does it smell burnt?
