Chrome Shift Plate for '99 TL

Chrome Shift Plate for '99 TL
I am interested in stripping off the clearcoat on my shift plate to bring out the chrome. For those of you who already have done so, how do you go about doing this? I have some paint thinner I could let it soak in, but am not sure what exactly I should do. Thanks in advance for your response!
