masik24, you have a 2002, you can only do it on a 99. The 99 shift plate has a chrome surface beneath the dull silver color. Just go to home depot and get a can of Graffiti remover. Take off the shift plate, spray the graffiti on the plate and then wait for a few minutes, it should peel off.

Keep in mind, ONLY 99TL

The only problem with using a 99 shift plate on an 00+ is of course you cant shift in 1st gear.... meaning you cant gate shift. I dont even know if the thing would actually fit on an 00+... I guess it works. Damn, Acura really did do something nice.... Chrome underneath, and I can control 1st gear in SS!!! Gotta love the 99's!!!!!!

A 99 shift plate will fit 00-03 but you will not be able to shift gate through 1 and 2...

Yes... the 99's can sit there and red line in 1st gear forever in SS.... 00+ the car automatically shifts for you from 1st to 2nd in SS. In order to get around that, for example if your racing. You would shift all the way into first, then redline it, and slap it to second, and then up to third... etc.

According to Pohanka Acura (in Chantilly, Virginia), that piece for the 00-03 TL is $63.64 (part# 54710-S0K-A91). The 99 version of that is $80.96. From the "exploded" parts diagram, it looks like it's more than just a plate, it’s actually a part of a bigger sized piece of plastic. You may want to contact your local dealer/parts department again and give them the part number above and see how much they'll charge you for it. Pohanka doesn't charge customers for special orders; you just have to pay for it up front (if over $50).

For '00+ TLs the shiftplate is made of black plastic... that's it, you could easily remove the shift plate, strip the dull grey paint off, and apint it with a can of chrome paint. It won't look like the '99's, I'll tell you that for sure, you won't get the perfect reflection like the '99's do but you will get rid of that dull grey (gray) look .
