Choosing a System

I've been looking around on Craigslist and stuff for a good used system, I came across one with a 12" Alpine Type R, a 500 watt Kenwood Amp, and a Pioneer Premier headunit with wiring all for $175..I could also pickup two new 10" Sony Xplod's and a 500 watt amp for a little more- opinons? I think the Alpine Type R will still be louder..

honestly, i would not go for JL unless it was a w7. no doubt its a really good brand, but its still too expensive. you can get other subs that are equal/better than oh say a w3 or w6 for alot cheaper. nothing really compares to a w7 though when you compare subs are that loud and still keeps SQ.

Do you want a affordable system or a cheap system, two different situations here?

If you want a affordable system, get a Pioneer/Alpine headunit

Amp: You are better off getting a Amp that is low brand or not known yet, like Power Acoustic ( Many other but this one popped up & personal experience ), because at the end its the same just like any other Amp and has the same features too BUT gives out much more power for the money. I got a PS3-1600 ( Power Acoustic ) pushing my Kicker L7 at 740 RMS, which is maximum, and I only paid 150 for the Amp and never had a problem since!

Subs: JL, Kicker, Alpine, Boston Acoustics, AudioBan. Get one powerful 12, you'll be set!

Box: I currently have sealed, but will upgrading to ported/vented so the Sub can breathe better in and out, which will provide cleaner bass.

Remember though at the end, its about your taste, style and music preference. This is just to give you a brief idea!

you can get REALLY good setups for dirt cheap.
its not like it was even 2-3 years ago, prices have fallen.

My last setup was Infinity powered by Alpine. Sounded amazing.

It's been a little while so i forger the exact models of the HU and speakers, but I do remember that I had 2x Alpine MRD-M300 amps powering 2x Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1d subs in a sealed box.
very deep very clean.

It really depends what you're going for though. Don't cheap out. You'll regret it.

12" alpine type R deff best bang for u buck. JL is hands down winner for Car subs weither its a w0 or a w7 IMHO. kicker solobarics are pretty unreal subs too. like someone else said get a no name amp with proper RMS wattage for ur setup. and single din hu 1)pioneer 2)alpine. checkout the pioneer DEH-P7800 should be on closeout at most spots. great HU did things my $1300 double din wishes it could do.
