Chirping 2nd

Before everyone responds to tell me how bad it is for the car, please hear me out.

I have read a lot of posts with peple saying they can spin out 2nd and chirp third and I was inspired to see what I could do.

My only mod is a K&N drop in filter.

I put the car in SS (with the air and VSA on) floored it and to my surprise it chirped with ease. Tried it again the next day and chirped again!

I then tried it in normal D5 mode and no chirp.

Now, the car seems to have a mind of its' own. I tried today to chirp 2nd in SS mode with the AC off and it would not do it.

My car is a 2003 TL-S with 3100 miles.

Any thoughts out there on how to get a consistent chirp if I so desire?

Thanks.

Are you attempting to do this chirping thing on the same surface and at the same ambient temperature?

I am trying only on black top because it seems to be the most chirp-friendly surface.

The ability to chirp is what I always miss when it comes to driving an automatic.

In the past I have had a Maxmia SE 5Spd and a 1994 25 anniversary Cobra 5Spd.

There is nothing like that little squeal between gears to get you fired up!

Want to chirp into second all the time? Redline going into second while going up hill on cool surface.

I've got a fix for that. Just keep running them hard, chirping and spinning away. And after 12,000 miles the fronts will be shot. :p

It was a lot easier to do it this way and explain to the spouse that the OEM tires are junk and with the heavy fronth wheel drive they are wasted.

Now I get to buy some new tires and get wheels while I'm at it. Why, because the OEM tires are about $200 a peice. And the new ones about 1/2 that. So with the $$$ I'm saving I can justify getting new wheels as well.

It's the same logic that the spouse uses when getting a new outfit or something.

I've got mine to do it once, You want vsa off, you don't want the computer to even think it might get a chance to reduce timing or fuel to stop wheel spin, ac off will help, and I got mine at night on blacktop, during the day the new orleans heat makes just about ANY tires stick like gum on the bottom of your tennis shoes.

From: Miami - just one day, I would like to drive without getting cut off!
I can't seem to chirp into 3rd. But other than that I chirp when I don't want to, like after a stop light . Too much power for such sh!tty tires.

Yeah, hope you're expecting a blown transmission within 20K miles.

Well if under 5 chirp attempts will blow a tranny at 20k, there is a problem bigger than me.

I have had a car with a 5 speed manual and chirped as frequently as I liked and had no clutch or tranny problems for 70k+ miles until I traded it in for my 99 TL-Navi.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I cannot remember where, but someone on this site said he can break the tires loose in 2nd and chirp 3rd. I will post the link if I find the post.

Makes me wonder if it is all road specific and not so much car specific.

By the way, what is everyone's beef with the OEM tires? On my 99 TL, I still had my original tires on the car when I traded it in at 47k.

The beef is that they don't let your corner to the TL-S (stock) potential, nor do they allow for decent, neck snapping launches (shaving about .1 at best off your 1/4-mile ET w/ a good brake-tork). They squeal in temps above 80 degrees under mild to slightly moderate throttle from a standstill -- it's annoying, people think I'm being a hardass when I'm just trying to feather the throttle to get moving!

I agree with Pete....stock tires just don't cut it... in simple words... THEY SUX.... :p It squeal when taking off at moderate throttle when the tires are cold... and on perfectly paved, straight roads, mine chirps from 1st to 2nd, even with VSC on, when run it hard(redline gear changes).....

Maxima SE's come w/ Potenza's.. and they start at $25,900!!!

I'd gladly pay the extra $500.00 for decent tires on a stock TL-S .. don't you think the Car mags would only have a few more positive things to say about the car.. especially when they took in in the slalom? In fact, back in 2000 when they did a $30,000 comparo of entry-level luxo sedans, they put the 3.2TL atop all the rest, but the only flaw they pinpointed was it's poor choice of rubber, and the fact that it only wore 205's .. when it seriously needed 215 if not 225's...
