That sucks. I've been looking at publications about an aftermarket fix but haven't seen anything yet.

Unfortunately, Sonnax only makes problem tranny upgrade kits/parts for domestics....

Let me know if you find something out.

I've got to think that the later model trannys (the ones with the oil sprayer built-in) have got to have other design improvements.

In any event - my builder is excellent with Hondas/Acuras if you want to come down! (j/k - although I may need him myself sometime!)

Guys over at V6P are gauging interest on an upgrade kit. I hope it happens, but in either case, it wouldn't help you, Kris.

So what are you gonna do now? They won't cover it under warranty anymore, would they? Rebuild it yourself, perhaps??

im going to have to check V6P out. im not sure. i have 1 i rebuilt but i dont really want to stick it in, cause i know its going to fail since the 3rd gear clutchpack wasnt redesigned. i need to find something.

if someone can come up with the parts that are strong enough the car is well worth it. (that and most aftermarket rebuilders are nowhere near the 5k factory price)

i should have bought the cl-s 6speed tranny when i had the chance to get it for almost nothing. im half contimplating doing that, now if i only had a type-s

DO IT!

Wow... I don't know if any car is worth the expense and headache of FOUR trannies. Unless you have some major hook-ups on good prices and cheap labour or are doing all the work yourself, you've probably spent the worth of the car or more at this point just on tranny replacements/repairs alone.

ive spent 900 dollars on the tranny so far. i installed my last one myself. i cant buy a reliable car for teh price of a rebuilt tranny. nor is the car worth any thing on trade so i might as well keep running the thing in the ground for a work car like ive been doing. i just need to find some good parts that wont fail

wasn't optiq's tranny aftermarket and reinforced with higher quality parts..if his shop could ship it...you could most likely install it.

http://www.levelten.com/store/import...s/acura_cl.htm

Check this out. Expect to spend about $3.300 for tranny. However, I heard good things about their product, even from my dealer. I think about this solution as my car has tranny #4, and I am sure this one is not going to last for too long as well.
Good luck to you and keep us posted.

That's what I thought orignally too, but some guy on V6P.net told me levelten are not reliable. He then went on to say that Dr. Evil (sp?) is better. Just telling what I've been told.

I was at the dealer the other day for my wife's 30K service on her MDX. I was talking to the parts manager about the tranny stuff and he said that in his experience at the dealer (he does parts and service), the tranny problems he's seen have all had fluid burned to sludge. He said that several of the techs had recommended a transmission cooler (something he said was part of the design in earlier TLs) because the high temps were killing the tranmissions. He told me that comptech makes one for us and I'm definitely going to look into it. He mentioned that none of the people for whom the dealer has replaced the transmission who also opted to add the cooler have been back a second time. Hmmm.....

I wish it was that easy, people with the tranny coolers, as well as those who do tranny fluid flushs often have all had failures. It's a defective part. End of story .

my fluids have never been burnt to sludge. my fluid is still pinkish red, not burnt smelling and its failing. Oh and the last 3 failures have had a Tranny Cooler. it makes NO difference

Sorry to hear Kris, that must totally suck. I'd ditch the TL and get yourself the CTS-V if I was going on to #4.

Yup.

My fluid was nice and pink with partial tranny fluid changes once a year at every other oil change since new when it took a dump at 42k. Even after the tranny started slipping like crazy, when I checked the fluid, it was still nice and pink. That guy is either full of it, or clueless.

D'oh! ..thats the answer I was afraid of. Hah! ..your ol' school vids rocked. I know of a shop here in the Chicagoland..can't remember the name off the top of my head, but I do know there is one that does tranny upgrades to Honda's. If I think of it, I'll let you know. Hope all works out Kris.
