cheap ebay CAI??
cheap ebay CAI??
im am 100% going to buy an intake very soon my only question which one to buy. $250 seems like to much.
1. what is the real difference between these cheap CAIs' and the nice ones AEM, injen, fujita ( however it is spelled)other than the price. were talking a $50 - $250 swing
2. is it worth it if im just looking for something more efficient and nice sounding not racing.
heres some links:

Only difference really is metal quality. Ebay intakes use thinner tubes I think. If you go ebay, spend money on a good filter. Other than that, it's almost a matter of luck whether or not the brackets break or not...

^ agreed. that ebay cai is bended differently than how AEM or Injen has it. AEM / Injen CAI is a simple two bend design.
as for sound.. you'll have a nice growl at vtec. just gotta worry if the brackets will hold up. replace the filter at the end with a fujita filter and you're good to go.

the fitmit quality too, but yeah the big thing that they can cut cost is too put a dirt cheap filter on it, so i would at least get a quality one of those
personally i like the Comptech icebox
, especially with the ability to service the filter from the top

so let me be the first to go;
for even think about getting an EBAY cai
I'm running an Ebay intake right now. The only other things besides the filter you should upgrade are the hoses. After time they melt and crack. Cost me $3 to replace them and haven't had a problem since.
thx guys i think i heard enough input. i made my purchase tonight and the intake is on the way, however i wont reveal which one i got ....................yet. (hint my wifes gonna be mad)
tis the season

yeah fitment was an issue for me... but it was on my 92 accord so i didn't care to get a cheap intake but it was a CAI but it wouldn't fit lol so i just made it a short ram but it had a nice growl and i could feel a little gain in power it was like 30$ lol

be careful with the intakes for the type s. i forgot to mention that the room is very cramped for the cold air intake.. i have an injen intake and mines ALMOST touches the metal part on the bottom leading to the air filter. so yeah.. be aware.
I got the AEM CAI on my type S and there was no fitment problems at all. Did not need to remove my foglight. The only way it will hit your foglight is if you buy an extended cone, other than that... the AEM one fits perfectly fine.
^ oh well i would hope the aem has no fitment problems but i was jw about the ebay CAI... just cuz its like a quarter of the cost im jw if it would have fitment issues on my car (type s)
i have the ebay one...its this thin lil metal..n shaped oddly...comes with a cheap filter....does the work..but if u want deeper sound get a better one...as for the intake tube fitting...it didnt fit mine..but den again i have a different throttle...but i got it work with som adapters from autozone...and for the bracket....mine didnt fit..n its just sittin on it..still in tact....not broken..been about 6 months...really....who cares about the bracket..
owners of the cai will say its a crappy set up..but i havent been laughd at when u see that big motha under the hood....cant find hood pics...not sure where they saved....but heres soml...remember..it doesnt fit on mine..because i dont have a type s

SOOOOO for the guy who wanted to point n laugh...whats cheap n humorous about this....
what the fact that i dont have a sticker sayin AEM.....thats not worth the extra 200 for....
this came with the two hoses and everything necessary to work

this picture shows the cheap filter that came with the ebay CAI... i replaced it right after that with another more quality one... the CAI has held up pretty well so far, so we'll see what happens...
pretty much all the same concept and purpose. from personal experience i just stay away from generic anything. i've been there done that and don't want to do the same work twice. that's just me.
i dont think anyone has ever dyno'd an ebay intake alone however for 1/5 the price.. and a good possibility it brings atleast 50% of the power of the aem, you cant go wrong. to be honest i dont see why it wouldnt give the exact same results as an expensive intake. either way.. $300+ for 5 hp isnt a good turn around to begin with. and if i achieve that with $50 thats more money for my full exhaust. as far as quality.. im aure the expensive ones are better quality metal.. and if the aem lasts 10 years and my ebay lasts 3 (mine has been on for 4) and i buy another every 3 years im still in with less money. at the end of the day.. its a pipe. as long as you dont go pvc.. your still a baller in my book. stay black
My feedback on the ebay intake from the Prelude that I had was that it didn't come with any brackets welded to it, so it was just bouncing in my engine bay. I swaped the filter with a Spectre one from Autozone, then with a Fujita one after a spray paint job I did. The sound from it was loud even at idle. I didn't think it was bad at all, but then againg I never had a $$$ intake.
I have been looking at CAI for the last week and after seeing these pictures I was curious, after you take off the wheel well cover to install do you leave the wheel well cover off?
Also, is the hp increase really only 5? I have been looking at the aem v2

well i just installed me CAI recently and I DID NOT remove the front bumper. the OEM SYSTEM comes off real easy and to get the resonator off one must remove the drivers side front wheel well plastic and BOOM theres your resonator. The new intake system goes on even easier. The only problem i had was the hoses and getting them lined up properly aand redirected. I suggest neoprem hoses. ALSO the intake sounds great, def during vtech.

and to actually pull the bumper is not very hard at all, just some clips (maybe more then some), with two 10mm bolts on the underside (with some more clips) and it is off
