i dont have any of the removal of the glovebox but here here are few i have.
the first pic for first timers will be different. this is the way it will look when you finish every thing up. this piece of plastic thats screwed in will be flipped on end and is what needs to be cut off. you can still see teh little tabs on it.
remember to save the piece you cut out because you will have to reuse it like in the pic

the 2nd pic is what it will look like after you cut the piece out.

this pic - my pasport smart cord wire in the way is what yours will look like once you take off the black lid that holds thee filters in.

and this is what a dirty air filter looks like

although we have pics of this i wanted to post mine too....it was REALLY easy i just got in from doing it. Took about 40mins....(had some beer, listened to some music, couldn't find my tools).

I started using a razor knife thing, then just got really pissed off after almost chopping my hand off, so i took a dremel to it and although it's not really neat, it came off in friggin 1 min....so it was worth it.

Only dumbass thing i did was: after i was done i noticed the glove box open button was sticking when i pressed it, so i took the screws out and looked into the mechanisms and squirted some oil in there, and NOW it's leaking out around the button area....dammit...anyways....pics:

actually....here's the link to the pics...betta.

**One more thing....i couldn't find the screw that held that rod in place on the right side....never took the screw out.....???...wtf....so i subbed in a screw and a washer to hold it in....friggin weird....**

you suppose to change them as often as you would like, this is what seperates you from the nasty air. So if you drive a lot on dusty roads, and\or smoke in the car, or just like to breathe in fresh air, every 6 months should do it.

It only cost 20 bux at PepBoyz for the 2 filters. And it takes about 10-15 mins to install.

I just changed my filter...and noticed that it was never changed before. I have 72k and that filter was dirty. I never really paid attention to the cabin filter, It made a big differance after I changed it.

Heh, I've had my car for 2 years now with 33k miles. I haven't changed the filters yet. And since I smoke in the car and whatnot, they are probably dirty as hell. I might do it once I get back to school in January.

Thanks for all the advice in this thread, though. Great help.

I'm embarrassed to say, but I have 49K miles on my car now and haven't changed them (I got the car with 20K miles). I didn't even know about this, and surprisingly, I looked through all the routine mx paperwork from the dealers, and they haven't changed them either. You'd think they would do this as another way to take a few more dollars from me. Thanks for all the tips, I'm going to Pepboyz tomorrow.

i always thought the dealer would take care of this during service. So do i just remove the glovebox and the filter should just be there to pull out?

nvm, i found the write up

Just this morning I bought these filters at my local Pep Boys. They were on the shelf where the other Purolator air filters were. Of course, they were on the lowermost, right hand shelf since the part number starts with a 'C' (all the Purolator air filter part numbers start with an 'A'). It was the last box of them, the cost was $21.99.

Since they were closer, I first stopped at a Federated Auto Parts store then an Advanced Auto Parts store. Federated did not have any in the store but had them at the local warehouse. AAP didn't have them at all. The part number/bar code label wasn't even on the shelf.

BTW, since I just bought my '99 and it was an Acura Certified vehicle, I assumed (I know ) these filters would have been replaced. Not only, aren't they replaced as one of the 150 certification steps (I checked and it's not listed), these filters had never been replaced. The filters were dirty and there was lots of leaf debris that needed vacuumed out of the slot they fit in.

I used a 2 inch, flexible putty knife to pop the glove box door stops off and used a ratcheting Phillips head screwdriver (the kind that looks like a tiny socket wrench) instead of a regular Phillips head screwdriver to remove the 2 screws that hold the glove box door on. Even though it was the right size, the regular screw driver kept slipping.

Replaced mine with regular AC filter from Home Depot

I replaced mine every few months with regular AC/furnance filter cut out. The first time I did it, I bought one filter for the job, not knowing I needed two. Seeing two filters I needed, I went back to Napa only to find out that it was a special order item and would take two to three days. Not wanting to wait while job half done, I decided to go to Home Depot and bought one of those furnace filters. I cut it into the exact size pieces and installed two pieces and it worked fine. I figure if it's good for home use, it's good for the car. I spent a total of less than 2 dollars per replacement!

wait....why can't we just cut out one big piece to fit the hole?....from a bigger filter to fit the hole....instead of installing two....??

$21.99 (plus tax) at Pepboyz (Purolator C15390) and 25 minutes later, I have clean filters. Would have taken me less time, but after re-assembling, I had "extra parts"...forgot to put the plastic cutout back on. That piece reaffirmed that the filters had never been changed. Dirty is an understatement in this case. Thanks to fsttyms1 for the tips and pics!

When replacing these filters, should we spray any disinfectant inside the area where the filters reside? Will it damage anything? I know there must be bacterial or fungus infection growing in there since it's an enclosed area. What you guys think?
