changed my oil and now need new oil pan. Also need something...
I changed my oil today and when i was trying to put the drain bolt back in, i noticed that the bolt just rotated in the oil pan at the very end. The thread on the pan is shot and probably on the bolt too. I was not the last one to change the oil, it was Acura as i didnt have the time to do it. Anyway, i ordered a new pan off of Acura Automotive Parts.org and some other stuff. Just sucks because i need to drive the car and the damn thing is now leaking oil out of the plug. I guess that i'll just wait the 2 days for the pan and change it as soon as i get it.
On a side note, i bought this car from my mom. And when she was driving it, the rear view mirror broke and started to leak all over the gear shifter. It was this black tar type stuff. Anyway, does anyone have one (complete mirror) that they would like to sell me as it is annoying that i can not dim my mirror when some asshole has his high's on behind me...

I mean i ordered a new one already, but it sucks that the Arsholes at Acura screwed it up. And what sucks even more is that i need to drive the car. I dont have anyone to take me to school and back. The leak isn't bad, and i did just put some sealant that my truck driver told me about so that the bolt stays in there. Its like locktight but specially made to be around oil and heat... So far it stays, but i just want a new pan and plug so that i don't have to deal with it later on down the road. Just scared if the bolt falls out and the oil drains forcing me to shut her off and coast to a stop on the shoulder. Come Friday, i'll have a new pan. Until then, I'll drive her lightly and check the bolt every time i park to see if its coming out or not.

Before trying to but a replacement mirror, definitely read the thread that tientruong linked.
There have been some problems with these mirrors leaking and the mirror manufacturer, Magna Donnelly, has been sending free replacements. See the linked thread to find contact information for Magna Donnelly.
Magna Donnelly has apparently revised the mirror dersign so that it will no longer leak fluid.
Other people have been able to get their local Acura dealers to install a free replacement. Others have had trouble getting a replacement mirror through either method. Again, read the linked thread for more information.
Also, some people feel that the fluid leaking from the mirror is toxic and that it has caused health related problems.
Be cautious about buying a used replacement mirror. You would run the risk of getting another mirror with the original design that could leak. (I've recently seen people selling these mirrors on eBay.)

before replacing the whole pan, i would usea larger (oversized) oil bolt. and return the pan.

alright so here is the story. the manufacturer (Magna Donnelley) will send me a free replacement, but my mom has been suffering from the same exact symptoms as explained. now she also has cancer when she didnt have anything before. its breast cancer (i know this is common) but its also somewhere else. Im starting to think whether or not its because of the mirror because she had never experienced them things befor the mirror leaked.

At this point you might want to continue the mirror discussion in the linked mirror leak discussion thread.
I'm sorry to hear about your mother's health problems.

artbran,
If you're seriously concerned, contact them and ask for a material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the monochromatic liquid they use in their mirrors. Then you'd probably have to have a chemist look at the compounds to determine if they are carcinogens.

I just read the thread that was here a month ago and they said that they didnt want to give him the info he wanted. I'll call again tomorrow and see what they say... Then again, thats what it said on the first page and i didnt get a chance to read the whole thing.
And just like it was said a post or 2 ago, i'll continue this in the mirror thread so i dont hog this one up.

I would tap it to the next larger size as mentioned before. Perhaps a vacuum could help suck out shavings while you tap. You could always stick your finger in the hole and try to remove most of the shavings that fell inside...
just my two cents..

The oil drain plug is magnetic. So that will pick up some of the metal... also the filter will get almost all of it. If it's small enough to get through the oil filter, then it's probably not going to hurt the engine.
If you are going to replace the pan, then just use JB Weld around the drain plug to stop the leak for now.

I gues the best you can do is first to remove the oil pan, then do whatever you need to do with the bigger bolt or so. that way you don't have to worry about the metal shaving, and you have a lot of other options or taking it to the shop for them to work on. It is a lot easier to work with rather than working under the car.
