Cool CD Changer...

Hey guys... can any of you recommend a good CD changer... something like 12 discs and an extra clip or whatever that CD holder is called.
My wife convinced me ,that I need a CD changer and that she'll get it for me as a holiday gift... all I have to do is find the one I want.
I haven't started my research yet I just wanted to see what the trends are and what I should be looking for in a changer.

You using your factory radio? How about 2 6 disc changers, don't think a 12 would work.

I would get an alpine S624 and use two adapters like streeteffectz used.

Is it true that only Alpine will work with the TL's factory radio without any modifications?
I was on the Circuit City web site and they listed changer interface as MET HONALPV.1 and a changer ALPINE... does that mean that a pioneer won't work?
So far I zero'd in on Pioneer CDX-P1250 and Alpine CHA1214... what do you think...

the alpine S6xx are the only ones that work with the factory deck. the S620 is considered an OEM replica. doubt pioneer will work. dont get one of those 50 disc things. mp3's will outdate it very shortly. and you'll have to start splicing wires to install it.

The problem lies in how your HeadUnit recognizes more than 6 discs . I don't believe that the CHA will work.
Thank for the link, but all it shows is how to install the OEM CD changer, they don't say anything on HeadUnit not being able to handle 12 discs. I've sent them an email and will let you know their reply.
Also, I've noticed that they don't even have the Alpine CHA1214 model in their store...

Hey... got a little update on my research... got an e-mail back from Crutchfield:
Hello,
In answer to your question about installation information for your, 2000 Acura 3.2TL, unfortunately, that vehicle has not been researched yet, so we don't have any information available in our database. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you right now. Please check our online vehicle selector in a few months - we may have better news for you then.
I really hope Autotoys can do better...

dude
save yourself the headache
it wouldn't do more than 6.
I believe that the limitations
lie in the buttons on the headunit
numbered 1-6. Those control which
disc you can select therefore the
numbers 7-12 are non existent.

I believe the Alpine 1214 is "Ai-net" based which is not compatible with OEM interface. I followed Autotoys instructions and installed my 6 disc. The current compatible model is the CHMS-620. Cost around $210.00

whats wrong with just using the Acura one. It comes with all the right stuff for a perfect installation, and I believe it is made by Alpine. I think I got mine from A&H for less than $300.

Do you think that Alpine CHA1214 would work also since they are from the same manufacturer and the connections should be the same. I'd hate to get a 6 disc if I can get a 12 disc.

I have an Alpine 6-disc changer in my car. I am not sure what model number it is but it is the same as the one Acura sells except it says "Alpine" instead of "Acura" on it. As other people have been saying the only one that fits is the 6-disc if you want to run it through the factory radio.

Thanks guys... I called couple of installers last night and was told the same thing... the only one that fits is the Alpine CHMS620, same model as Acura sells for $300+, and I'll need and adaptor...
What bugs me the most is that this 6 disc changer will costs $220, plus the converter $20 and at least one extra magazine $20 which comes out to $260 + tax... and I found a Pioneer CDX-P1250 12 disc for only $190...
Well... the good thing is... if I understood correctly installing the changer is a 10 minute job... just pop the plastic in the trunk attach the wire connections and you are done... correct me if I am wrong...

Installing the changer is not complicated, but NOT a 10 minute job. You still have to run the cable from the back of the headunit to wherever you are putting the changer. And if I recall correctly, you need 2 adapters, not one. One is the "M" bus adapter, and there is another one, which I don't recall off hand, but I can find out.

You only need 1 adaptor
This is also clarified in the pictorial instructions on the AUTOTOYS link that
I posted
All you need is the Honda/Acura adaptor which costs about $20-40.
The Alpine changer plugs into that adaptor which you plug into the back of your OEM headunit.
Ai-Net adaptors are different from M bus adaptors that's why the Ai-Net will NOT work.

I thought that the car was pre-wired...
...if you let me know what adapters I'll need I'd really appreciate it... thanks.
