I am so pissed off with my acura tl '99. I have 103K miles on it and it seems to be for a car of this type it shouldn't be a problem. I got a "check engine light" and when i went to a local shop the guy did some diagnostics and told me that there something wrong with emmisssions and i should clean my catalytic converter by using a catalytic converter cleaner fluid. To my desperation i did exactly that, and guess what? The freaking thing didn't go away.
1. Can someone tell if the existing warranty will cover it?
2. If the warranty doesn't cover it, how much it might cost to fix this problem and should i even bother.
3. If fixing is a must, should i go to a local shop to do it or spend twice as much at a dealer?
Help is greatly appriciated.

dude, I just had that happen to me
got the check engine light so i went in, the code was "catalytic deterioration"... so we reset it and said if it comes back on, there’s a problem. he said sometimes the code is BS.
So the other day it came back on, and I took her in, and now im getting a new cat.
The cat in the TL has an extended warranty until 8yr/80,000 miles.
I know that does not help you, but this is a known issue and maybe you can get a courtesy fix if you bring up the extended warranty...

this is just great...
Well,
thanks a lot for this comment. I just spoke to the dealer and the woman said that they have to look at it ($80 diagnostic fee). She said that they are aware of this problem but still have to look at it. I can't believe this is happening to me. This sucks so much.
I still hope if someone can reply to me with a hope that if this part can be changed where can i find it (original only)
Thanks a lot for your help guys!!!
