Be careful with CAI's

Just talked to a mechanic who is going to install my headers and he has 3 cars in there with Hydro-lock'd engines. All of the with CAI's. Also, are the holes of the OBX headers the only issue when installing them?

heh..as long as you dont drive through a massive puddle of water, your fine. Anyways, you can get a bypass valve or just get the icebox which wont suck in water.

He said all of these were "modded engines" and he took the one off his wife's car for this reason. He worked at Acura for a long time and then opened up his own shop. It rained a lot here, but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Sounds like some expensive cars, now even more expensive.

Modded engines or not, as long as you don't completely submerge the intake into water, your fine. And as I said before, if you're that worried about hydrolock, just get a bypass valve. It's guranteed to work. Heck the guy who designed it put it on his OWN NSX, submerged it in water and ran the engine. It works!!

I'll probally go with the ice box, waiting for people's opionions once they get them on and use them a while.

Ive hard of plenty of bone stock Beemers with Hyrocloked engines. Their intakes may be lower than most, but regardless, all it takes is some common sense, and the patience to turn around and find another way around.

If you are dumb enough to drive thru a puddle then you deserve a hydrolocked engine.

ncbuckeye - your kinda scaring me.... I live in inclimate weather and I am about to get a CAI- now I think I will definitely put on a by-pass valve- I'm not stupid though, I will be extra careful in puddles and standing water! Anyways- does anyone know if you lose hp by having a bypass-valve. i had heard this on some other posts....

LOL - the first night I had my CAI, it rained as hard as it has in a long, LONG time.... I was scared silly... I mean, there was water laying on the road and I was goin pretty quickly too. I do watch puddles though, so I'm not too worried about it anymore though. Eventually when I get the AEM V2, I WILL have the bypass valve just for that piece of mind. crap, $40 for less worries... I think thats a good deal!
