For the racing (ricing) look, I guess. And for reduced weight.
IMO, if you want reduced mass to go fast then get an S2000. The TL is a luxury car with a healthy shot of performance. Better to add power if you want to go faster. Or perhaps to remove all accessories and send to me for safe keeping!

Momo shift, wing, tint, Whistler 6-band.
'88 White RX-7 Convertible
BBS, Kenwood 'Flip-face,' Fosgate Fanatic 4.9, Fosgate 8", Boston Acoustics.

Carbon Fiber hoods on smaller cars on average save about 50 lbs. If you've seen the underside of our hood, there's a good bit of insulation, which means we'd be saving even more weight. Just 50 lbs? well take into consideration that its 50 lbs off the front of the car. Most modded rides have sub boxes in the trunk as well. This just helps remedy the pretty offset weight distribution being a V6 Front engine Front Wheel Drive. (stock 63/37 or something close to that) The closer we can get to 50/50 the better.
Also, they can be painted, but then again, no one would know that you spent the $$ on a carbon fiber hood if you did that. IMO it looks great for Integra's with JDM front conversions or Tenzo-R style wide body civic hatches, (no offense to the rides of course, I love em to death), but the TL... I dunno it seems counter productive if you get 18" wheels, but want to save 50 lbs on a hood...
Just my 2¢, its more of an all out race thing.
btw, I think it only looks good on Black/Silver/Gunmetal colored cars.

i think it would probably look pretty good on a black car. it just seems like most of the cars you see riding around with the CF hoods are gutted and the hood was their last resort to save weight. i just dont see myself ripping out all of the carpet and seats and putting a racing recaro and roll cage in my TL!!

Yeah, the carbon fiber hoods do look awesome on a black car. I'd get them if I was heavily into racing. Or maybe I am just a Rice boy at heart driving a Luxo car.
Also, some places that make carbon fiber hoods do allow them to be painted...not sure who though, maybe it was that guy who posted on the h-a.net classified section.

I doubt it since the noise from the engine is acutally blocked by insulation in the firewall between the engine and around the passenger cabin.
Maybe slightly more noise if you are standing next to the car.
