Carbon fiber hood for 02-03TL

I just got off the phone with VIS regarding a carbon fiber hood for all of us with 02-03TL's. He just told me that in order for him to make the hood he was going to need atleast 15 cars and the price per hood would be $400. The only bad thing is that everyone is going to have to pay up front including me and it would take 8 weeks for it to be made. If anybody is local in Socal and are willing to do it let me know.

I have WDP and I want to get the CF hood. $400 is a good price but I need that $400 for something else. oh well. If we cna get the price lower I AM IN!!!

whys that. TOO ELEGANT? Come on this is an ENTRY level luxury car. I got the TYPE S because the S stand for SPORT. I hope you dont think it stand for sedan. If I get a SPORT SEDAN why not transform it into a sportier SEDAN.

TL is not a sports car, it is exactly you've said, a sedan. In additin, we are suppose to deviate from civics, not follow their footsteps.

BUT, its your choice.

I thought that besides looks, the CF hood was supposed to save on weight.

hood pins are there for safety.

anyways, from what i have read on other forums and what not... ViS is crap. USDM made carbon fiber hoods are just really shitty quality wise. there are very few, if any, US companies that make good quality carbon fiber hoods. JDM carbon fiber hoods are much more expensive... but there is a reason for that.... QUALITY.

face it, carbon fiber is not cheap and if it is, i would stay away from it.

can't you paint the carbon fiber to match the stock color of your TL? i'm not too familiar on the whole carbon fiber subject. personally though i would buy it for weight reduction and paint it to match the car. just my thoughts.

Currently having an OE Tuning CF hood, which I paid $600 on eBay for, I can tell you right now that price ain't shit. When I received my hood, the damn cf was scraped and the under structure was cracked. And conveniently, OE Tuning went out of business when I tried to return mines. Also, the damn cf was so thin that you can actually see sunlight coming in through the weaves. I know people who own VIS CF hoods on an 03' CL-S and a 97 Integra and trust me, compared to what is available to us, if any, VIS will make the best cf hoods for us.

yea why not make it sportier right? why not put those bigg ass 60 inch spoliers on ur TYPE S to make it sportIERR, better yet put some big ass exhaust that u can fit ur daym head in! u'll really be sportier then,

why not just give the car a clean look, a CF hood takes that clean look off a TL , on some cars it may look good on the right color, but not a TL

Do u see ferraris and lamborghinis with CF hoods? no! those cars r sporty as hell , why wouldnt they put it on?

well, i wouldnt say 50% but a good portion of those cars are made out of CF. as a matter of fact, some of them have FULL CF bodies.

I really think it's going to be impossible to get 15 people for a group buy. Not that many people like the look. So you said you tried to contact Kaido-Sports. Their website is still up and has the hood for $600. IMO I think the CF hood looks better on a 02-03 TL than on a 99-01. A while back there was a member that had a pic of his SSM 02-03 TL with the CF hood and I think it looked great since he had A-Spec headlights. I like the black look. Well here is the link to Kaido again...

I wounlt say tht so fast. Although it somewhat for looks. iit does weigh alot less. I jsut installed carbon fiber hood on my girls accord and damn th cgf hood is about 1/2-1/5 the weight. the stock hood is actually pretty heavy and i aint a weak skinny foo.

Originality is key to building a nice car. And hey, to each their own, build your car the way you want it and don't criticize others for their choices...
