car shut off? fuel pump???

car shut off? fuel pump???
well, this morning i was driving around 50-55mph and out of nowhere the car jerked and started to decellerate.. after 5-10 seconds it kicked back in and started driving normal...
than 2 miles down, the car just totally shut off.. i waited a couple minutes, started it and let it sit there. things looked good so i continued driving and no problems till i got to my destination...
while sitting idle on the side, a guy pulled up (was a mechanic gave me his card etc) and somehow just by looking at it and telling him my story, he said right away that its the fuel pump..
i was wondering if anyone else had this problem or maybe you know someone that did.. or anything at all.. it would be greatly appreciated.
btw, i let the car sit there during work (7 hours) and drove home (25 miles) with no problems either...

What year TL do you have?
The 1999 TL was especially prone to ignition switch problems. There was a recall for this.
Do you recall if your speedometer and tachometer needles dropped to zero when you lost power? That happened when the ignition switch in my 1999 TL was failing.

is it a 99??- pretty much guaranteed to need a new ignition switch
check if the recall was ever done
recall replaced them once but same part fails 2-3 times in life of car
later years may have same problem--- especially if there are several keys on the key ring- causes damage/wear inside the switch
see DIY section for install help- pretty easy job- part 50 bucks
